Is it the end of Mariah Carey's career?
Walk off the stage on New Year Eve event, how very unprofessional.

Can't help but feel sorry for her. Her voice has been a mess for years but she seems in denial about it. She is also more desperate to stay young than Madonna is. Train wreck really.

I blame those stupid enough to book her for such an event when there would have been far more talented performers willing to do it for much less.

I'm confused because having watched the longer video it appears the sound was at fault, not her. She begins to "sing" the first song and it just cuts out. She then tries to recover the situation suggesting it's a "sound check" but the problems seem to keep happening.
Not sure how that's her fault? Maybe I've misunderstood what was going on? If she was having sound issues I can understand why she was fed up by the end of it. Is this the end? End of what? I wasn't aware she still had a career to speak of. What this will give her however is huge publicity on a day when no one has anything better to do than watch youtube videos. She'll benefit from that. |

I don't know. Miming on American TV can ruin your career. They aren't so forgiving if you try to deceive them. However because its Mariah she might be okay.
And yes she'll be fine because as you say.. it's Mariah. I'm sure she was payed handsomely for the gig. |

Of course not. She's a legend, music icon. Like she said, 'Shit happens'. I bet she'll joke about it more than anyone, and join in the laugh, and people will move on.

She's been miming for years or using recorded vocals along with her own.
I doubt this is the "end" of anything for her . Fairly or unfairly she already has a reputation for being a "tantrumming diva" etc and it's no secret her voice isn't what it was. She seems to have a sense of humour about it ... which is .... something |

Has she got much of a career apart from being tabloid fodder these days?

You think it's the first time she or anyone else has mined on American TV. They all still have a career. Looks like a technical issue with the sound.
I wouldn't be surprised having read a few reports if the organisers did it as revenge for her diva behaviour before hand. A professional would carry on regardless. She could have had the whole audience sing acapella with her. Not run off the stage throwing a tantrum. Look at Madonna and the Brits, she got up and carried on despite banging her head on the floor. That's how you do it. |

Yeah the technical issue being that the backing track she was miming too cut out leaving her exposed with live vocals. She knew instantly what had happened which is why she didn't even attempt to sing and the parts she did sing are painful.
It's difficult to improvise when you only have a 5 minute set. You can't sing if you can't hear the track or yourself. The only result is that you will sound off key and out of time. Had this been at one of her own concerts then you could salvage things as you can wait until the sound engineers get their act together. On a live show you can't. |

if the rumours about her diva behaviour are correct I bet she most certainly didn't join in the laugh once off stage I bet she turned murderous

She's had a song in the UK top 10 for the last 4 weeks. A number one in the Netherlands. Top 5 in Germany and top ten across most of Europe and Canada.

A Christmas song that is 25 years old.
![]() Not quite sure people downloading an old song for Christmas counts as a current career otherwise we could say that Slade and Roy Wood are still going strong |

I've never liked Mariah Carey.
Vastly overrated. By a billion miles. And her voice is just terrible. |
