Sky/Freeview Recorder
Need some help please. Is there a recorder available that will record Sky AND Freeview ?. I have a Sky+ box, but to use the recording function I believe it is £12 per month. Would seem easier to have one box that could record both systems. Advice please.

However, if you have Sky you can record pretty well all the Freeview channels (as they are on Sky), so a Sky+ box (with subscription) does what you want. But as far as 'free' goes, you just need a Freeview PVR and record Freeview instead, or a Freesat PVR if you're in a Freeview Lite area.. |

The nearest thing you will get is a Freesat box that plugs into the dish as a direct replacement for the Sky box. The main channels will be the same as you are getting on the Sky box without an active subscription, but some of the other channels may be different.
But a Freesat recorder will at least let you record without any further monthly costs. |

Thank you for your reply. My option is to buy a Freesat recorder, or pay the £10 a month to be able to record/pause Sky. many thanks.

You could use a DVD recorder to record Freeview directly from its inbuilt tuner and Sky from its Scart input.
Of course you would need a supply of recordable DVDs to use with it. |

That solution doesn't appeal....I have started looking at Freesat recorders. I suppose they all have twin tuners so you can record two channels simultaneously ?

As for Freesat PVRs, yes you can watch and record on the modern recorders. What I have is both separate Freesat and Freeview receivers so I get the best of both and I'm happy with that set up. Link: http://www.freesat.co.uk/get-freesat/all-boxes |

There are combined free to air satellite/Freeview receivers available, e.g. the Openbox V8 combo but research has to be done since there might be limitations, e.g. just now and next programme information.

Link: http://www.freesat.co.uk/get-freesat/all-boxes I forgot where I bought it from as it was a long time ago These are the only type of boxes that can decode the FULL EPG from the various services - the hard drives versions are as follows for both Freeview and Freesat 500GB 1TB 2TB For Freeview you will now only get Freeview Play devices (Set Top Boxes/Recorders and TVs) when you buy new For Freesat you will only get the Freesat Freetime devices (Set Top Boxes/Recorders and TVs) when you buy new If you buy a new Freeview box/recorder it will be labelled Freeview Play and will have a Hard Drive inside, I have noticed that there isn't any Freeview Play boxes without a Hard Drive inside - they all have a Hard Drives inside From today all Freeview boxes/Set Top Boxes and TVs are all with Freeview Play/HD EPG and services See other Threads on this website and also the Freeview News website about this |

Humax have the HB1000S that has only 1 tuner and records to a USB drive, That is not as restrictive as might imagine. The one tuner can record one channel and watch a second on the same transponder (and have live pause/rewind etc). The second viewed channel can in fact be recorded from the time shift buffer after the first recording completes. You can use two them from Humax direct at £49.00 each plus the USB drives (The two remotes cab be set to control each box individually. The current twin tuner G2 Humax 1100s has the same capability extended to both tuners. Record any two channels at the same time. and watch any third channel. if both re Both recordings from the same transponder, watch any 3rd channel (and time shift it) Both recordings from diifferent transponders. Record any two transponders watch (and time shift) any channel on the same transponder as either recording.) As above. once any recording has finished, you can record the 3rd viewed channel from the first viewed point (or from the programme reminder set from the epg).. |
