Argh! Gutted for you that someone has just spoiled it ! Stick with it though, it's great.

A friend of mine was banging on about it for weeks telling me to watch it, but i didn't think it looked anything special. Anyway i decided to watch it, just to shut him up haha, and i got completely hooked! I smashed out 7 episodes over a weekend lol

For me it was one of the best things that i had seen for a while!
7 Episodes in a weekend is very impressive

I'm going to jump in to episode 6 now anyway and see what happens. If I find the spoilers have properly killed it for me, i'll just ditch it now and not bother with the rest but if not then I'll probably finish off the season.

for me it was only the last 3 maybe 4 episodes that it got me interested and that was probably because the anthony hopkins character got more involved, and whilst by no means his best work, his class shone through

i had been just perservering with it up til then really as there didn't seem to be a clear structure where it was going, but they started to tie alot up towards the end

Well i assume you're addressing me, but no, i didn't "fall" for anything. I watched it because i wanted to watch it. The stuff about GoT was incidental. It probably did raise my expectations somewhat, as i've already said, but i'd have still watched the show even if i hadn't read any of the promotional stuff.
Your post did trigger mine but it was more of a general comment, there were similar thoughts on the main thread about how this is meant to be the next GOT, and how it had raised some people's expectations. You aren't the only who fell for it, ooops sorry, not fall for it, rather, well, as you put it...
I suppose one of the main things for me that raised my expecations for the show is that i read a lot of the pre-publicity that claimed it would be the "new" Game of Thrones or that it would be the "ideal replacement" for GoT, so i suppose i was probably always going to be let down somewhat.

I loved westworld from the pilot, which was a surprise. Because i often find with HBO's shows that they are normally slow growers and i have to give them extra time before really getting into them. But i was hooked from the first episode and continued to be throughout the whole season

I am gutted that Jason has been spoiled. Because the show delivered some fantastic twists in the second half of the season.

Thanks for those spoilers ...

Don't think i'll bother with the rest now thanks to you.

Thanks again to everyone else for taking the time to answer. Much appreciated
It's worth watching to the end. Twist after twist, reveal after reveal. Every time I thought I'd worked out how it would end something would happen to turn everything on its head. Not sure where they will go with series 2, but series 1 was a satisfying piece of television

Jason - great idea for a thread - gutted for the spoilers above, but don't let it ruin the show - I was gripped from episode 1 and enthralled thru the whole season - it has displaced Mr Robot as my key series of 2016 and that took some doing. Stick with it, it is definitely worth watching the whole thing. There is so much happening in the background that it is easy to overlook - but with the benefit of hindsight makes the whole thing make sense. I immediately watched it again an saw a whole bunch of stuff I missed the 1st time.
Stick with it and then watch it again.

All the best

From the start, from the first moment Dolores opened her eyes to the last scene.

Yep in that respect it maybe worth the OP listening to the relevant Ars Technica podcasts for each episode. There's a lot of the "current" theories of what was going on, captured at the right point in time

Excellent - thanks for the link - that's my journey to work listening sorted out.

If you want a GoT replacement give History Channels' "Vikings" a look. Its up to series 4 now, but you should be able to get hold of the earlier series.
Though, if you don't like spoilers, avoid reading any early medieval European history!

You should be all right. At least you have as much surprise left as I encountered. Both mentioned spoilers fall heavily into the "I knew that was coming" camp of story twists. There are still a significant number of turns to go and a couple of real WTF! ones

I was aware of them ahead of time, possibly from the fan speculation or indeed they probably were both suggested as theories on the Ars Technica podcast.

I suppose in light of that I should warn that the podcast will also through out other theories that will prove to come true and of course some that didn't. They were not leaking insider info - just educated guesses based on the foreshadowing / hints in each episode

As you're a Mr Robot fan it's well worth a subscription as it was launched to focus on that show and will cover both as they are aired

For me it was Episode 4 when it went from "Pretty Good" to "Must See".

Anthony Hopkins has a scene towards the tail end of Episode 4 that is absolutely enchanting and menacing at the same time. It was truly one of the best acting performances I'd seen all year and arguably one of the best that TV has EVER had.

But from that moment on, the show just kept getting better and better, and soon everyone was delivering high class performances like Sir Hopkins was.

Oh, no I'm really sorry! I suppose I wasn't concentrating and since I finished it a few weeks ago I just assumed that everyone else had seen the whole season. It's not like me to do something like this.

I'm glad I stuck it right through to the very end of the credits on episode 10.

It starts really firing up around episode 7.

Thankyou, but don't worry about it. It's not actually affected me watching the show as it stands - the Bernard twist was in Episode 6 anyway and I watched that earlier. And it's not like I haven't done the same myself

Actually had a bit of a session and watched episodes 6-9 now and I was going to watch the last one tonight until i realised it was 90 minutes long !

I do think it picked up at episode 7 as well. The development of Maeve and having her become fully aware of what's going on both inside and outside of the park has been a highlight for sure. And respect to Thandie Newton for probably spending a lot of time sitting naked in that room as well !

I'll watch the finale tomorrow but I do think i'm glad i stuck with it in the end. I'm still not entirely sure about Season 2 at the moment, but there's plenty of time for that.

I think the best thing about Westworld was Tandy Newton.. I kept watching to find out what she would do next. A great performance and I hope she wins an award.

What's your view on the acting, Jason?

For me, it is Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton who steal the show. And both have been picked up various award nominations and both are contenders to win golden globes soon.

Yes I agree, apart from Hopkins of course, they stole the show.

In a way their characters are two sides of the same coin. I wonder if their journeys will go in the same direction.

I wasn't keen on Hopkins personally. But then his acting has left me empty for years.

Jeffrey Wright was amazing as Bernard. And i hope he gets some recognition at some point. Maybe the emmys?

For me around episode 4 I thought it had potential to be amazing or get lost up it's own rear end. By episode 7 it was looking much more like the former.

I wavered around episode two (seemed just dull and pretentious at that point ), but by episode three or four I was totally hooked.

Westworld demands a certain investment on the part of it's viewers, it's a show you really have to engage with. Excellent production values, great acting, deep storytelling, what's not to like?

I agree. The detail and dialogue in this series has to be listened to. I watched it on now tv, which has no subtitles, and while the picture was stunning the sound on my TV wasn't really up to the job . Fortunately by episode 8 Santa bought me a decent soundbar.
