'I'll fight Remainers case too' - May
https://www.theguardian.com/politics...message-brexit New year message from Theresa May: Quote:
We all want to see a Britain that is stronger than it is today,” May says. “We all want a country that is fairer so that everyone has the chance to succeed. We all want a nation that is safe and secure for our children and grandchildren. These ambitions unite us, so that we are no longer the 52% who voted leave and the 48% who voted remain, but one great union of people and nations with a proud history and a bright future. So when I sit around the negotiating table in Europe this year, it will be with that in mind – the knowledge that I am there to get the right deal not just for those who voted to leave, but for every single person in this country.”
Thats pretty reassuring. Listening to all the country instead of the rather loud group.

When did a PM doing a presidential NY Day address become a thing?
I think Cameron did it, was Blair also guilty of this delusion of grandeur? |

She can only truly fight for us by blocking brexit.
But encouraging at least she's not going to let the hard brexiteers get their way. |

What a load of crap.
Just pull us out and take responsibility for your party's actions and stop procrastinating. Don't expect Remainers to take the flak for you. |

Only thing she will be fighting for is her political survival.

Well, if she wants to muck around let's hope the decision is taken out of her hands, with this years elections sending the EU in the correct direction........ Collapse.

She's finally been forced to recognise that nearly half of the voters don't want to leave the EU, after previously not acknowledging the 48%. Remainers need to keep up the pressure, although of course it's impossible to unite two such conflicting views.

Well when one side wants to block the result by any means, of course it's going to be impossible to unite both sides.

I hope she doesn't make the common mistake of assuming everyone who voted Remain are part of some sort of hive mind who are as fanatically pro-EU as the loud ones.

Isn't she just saying we votee to leave the EU and the U.K is leaving the EU so those who voted remain will be leaving too?

She has 3 balls to keep in the air , the majority who want immigration control, the less racist or extreme element of the Leave vote, who will back her, and the sensible , democratic, remainers who want the best economic deal possible , but accept that we are leaving. She's bound to lose the xenophobes, far right free trade nuts, racists and EU fans at some point, but should pick up more of the Labour leavers and more moderate UKIP voters. She obviously wants the best economic deal she can , as the more of an economic disaster brexit is , the less she has to spend - and Leave voters may then blame her for their vote's consequences. . But she also knows that she, and we, have no control over what the EU give us, and how much damage they will decide to inflict on their own economie.s for political reasons. . |

Yep they are indeed, with the Guardian on hand to help and a liberal sprinkling of high court judges.

That's her job to get a deal the majority will accept. She knows that there is a sizeable part of the population who are uneasy at best about the change in circumstances. She is not going to please everyone and I don't envy her the task.

We voted to remove the "Ball and chain" that is the EU, not the collapse of our economy....
Let's hope it does not happen then. |

Fighting for Brexiters and Remainers? Bit like supporting Arsenal and Chelsea. This wont end well.

She should ask for a 10 year Brake and tell the Eu that she is unlikely to use it. Brake means Brake. Four Freedoms are intact.
Brexiteer: Immigration has increased. Theresa May: Yeah I know that Sunshine. Brexiteer: You are not in control. Theresa May: Yes I am. I have a Brake. But I am not using it. Brexiteer: But we have the same numbers from the Eu and greater numbers from India. Theresa May: Nigel Farage promised you more immigrants from India. Brexiteer: Do you think we are stupid? Theresa May: For the umpteenth time.....the John Curtice findings were slightly more subtle than that. |
