I am not sure if it happens to be when I flick on to Heart, but they seem to ALWAYS be playing the dreadfully dreary James Morrison/Nelly Furtado - Broken Strings.

This is not a recent thing, it has been going on for months if not years. I am very aware that Heart has tight playlists and to a certain level I support that, but can someone shed some light as to why a station that should be a bright fun listen ends up playing such depressing songs over and over again?

Well apart from all their output being depressing in terms of how they've pretty much ruined radio in this country, they only have the equivalent of a shoe-box full of CD's to rotate and to pretend that they're doing something earth-shatteringly good with the pityful and mind-numbing rotation of songs we've all heard a gazillion times.

It clearly tests well with their listeners or they wouldn't play it.

It probably does test well, but is it the only record they put forward to their 'testers' to give it the nod?

i think its more of a case of give the people what they think they want or play the same shite enough and people (the easy led ones) will start to think its what they want and like.
something that the media and music industry had been doing for decades and so on.

imo heart and its brother crapital are just nothing but a dreary turgid compilation cd on repeat.
im one of the very many who like real music variety and not the heart version of this that surly breaks trade descriptions

This song was played 21 times on Heart London in the last 30 days, that is less than once a day... for you to hear that every time you tune in is ether bad luck or you're talking complete nonsense.

Ether way, the talk about heart and radio stations being repetitive is a boring as the radio stations you inaccurately mock.

I'm sure facts won't stop you from ranting on, you're one of 'those' type of people!!

Are you always this passive aggressive or have we just caught you on a bad day?

If I hadn't actually heard it on Heart "everytime I listed", why do you think I would have made a special post about it on here? Maybe I have, like many been cast some bad luck during 2016...

21 times in 30 days for a mediocre song is quite heavy going in my opinion, especially given the wealth of other stuff that could be selected from that era.

In total agreement with CHR formats being repetitive, but see the point less with brands that play an older variety. My point was also suggesting that it is quite a lame downbeat record for what should be quite an uplifting station.

Happy new year.

Heart plays this song because it has the lyric "heart" in it !

Heart has always played songs with the lyric "heart" in them !

It's self-promotion and they've always overdone it.

I stopped listening to Heart in 1997 when they incessantly played, "Unbreak My Heart" by Toni Braxton. And it was always the dreary slow version rather than the uplifting uptempo version. It was played at least hour-and-a-half back then. We listened at work and we counted how many times it was played.

I haven't tuned in since !

Now if they'd played this version then it would have been a bit more palatable:

It's the McDonald's of radio and, just like McDonalds, it's a brand that can be sold to the unthinking masses.

There's a lot of money in unhealthy rubbish. Just look around and you'll see that the first rule of business is to give the people what they want rather than what might be good for them.

Heart: far less interesting than a f**t.

So they've got you then. That's good and I'm glad you enjoy it.

The only thing that would attract me to Heart again would be if they played this custom-made version of Tony Braxton every hour on the hour:

Uplifting is what I like !

You're putting your own personal tastes into a conversation about radio station choices, i used facts, 21 times for a station to play a song which was popular in is time is not excessive.

VCS put some facts to the conversation and then you might get come credibility to your point, until then they are just some musings of a group of people looking for the 'golden era' of radio which only existed because you were enthusiastic young people at the time and now you're just bitter about radio.

I am sorry but it proves how bad radio has got in this Country if playing a nearly 10 year old song 21 times in a month is not classed as excessive.

It was personal observation. There would be no point in open forums if people were not able to state their own point of view about an experience.

You might not be aware that for me to listen to heart as much as I clearly have, it must mean that I am generally quite happy listening to it from time to time, but you have decided that I am bitter about radio. I don't know how you've come to that point to be honest?

I have never given radio enough attention to even consider a 'golden era' of radio as you put it either. I have always had an interest, but being a bitter couldn't be further from the truth.

How would that benefit them in any way?

The Todd Terry remix of Unbreak My Heart has been played loads of times on Heart. It's the version they play when it features on the Time Tunnel or when it's added into rotation.

Never knew there was a Todd Terry mix - the dance version normally played on the radio is the Frankie Knuckles mix.

Correct it's the Frankie Knuckles mix. They're was no remix of it by Todd Terry (unless he did a remix but never released it) . I presume the poster is mixed up with everything but the girl missing, which was remixed by Todd Terry, that remix being the version of it played by most if not all radio stations who have that track on their playlist. Both are great remixes by legends (sadly frankie is no longer with us, rip)
