Not saying she is dying or anything like that but clearly it is more than a "heavy cold".”

Offs, why can't it just be a few u c king cold? Jeeeeez, there's a bloody conspiracy theorist on every corner. Don't forget she is rarely ill, these Christmas and new year events are regularly royal spotting opportunities and when ANY 90 year gets a winter cold it could be dangerous. She IS The Queen.

Princess Anne has apparently said that The Queen is recovering nicely, or words to that effect.

Imagine those berks who turn up at Sandringham on Christmas morning to see her.
They'd be ecstatic if that happened to them. "A jar QUICK! Bottle the royal sputum!"

Monica Lewinsky thought it was an honour to be coughed on by Bill Clinton

I bet she is giggling to herself with some of these 'she's at deaths door' theories.

I bet she's fitter than me and at 90 she deserves every right to recover 100% before being bored to tears with her public engagements.

Enjoy a well earned rest Your Majesty.

We have family in the near by village and many of the staff chat to the local shopkeepers.

Rumour is that it was more of a flu like type heavy cold. With that one does not eat as well or at all for a few days - at 90 it takes time to get back up to speed. HM is over the worse and the roumour is she wanted to go out to church yesterday and was advised against this

Get well soon mam.

With the Queen, it would not be the done thing to have a good blow of ones nose, grog up some phlegm or even sneeze in public. Can you imagine the tabloids splashing pictures of her all over their sordid, pathetic, front pages if she did.

No, the Queen did not give them a chance to do that, she did the wise thing and laid low, in a warm house by the fire, well away from the crowds that she would have to look happy with and smile sweetly to as they lined the path to the church bestowing upon her the inevitable flowers and gifts she did not want and can hear her say "well you can go if you like Phil and keep the peasants amused but I am staying in the warm by the fire"

No doubt these gifts and flowers that are given to her eventually finish up in hospitals, care homes and hospices in the area and many could save the Queen that trouble of redistributing them if they just sent them direct to these establishments instead.

I hope they don't stop her benefits for being unavailable for work...

I have just sent a qick, get well soon mam Email to HM.
I have also politely added that her public is worried for her and smoe kind of message via her family about when HM is to reappear in public would warm the hearts of her devotes.

God save the Queen

Any other person her age would have been allowed to retire, probably forced to by her employers!

Nobody wants big ears as king so if she has died just do a couple of Weekend At Bernie's appearances and we can all carry on.

Lots of people have the cold that's going around. I'm pretty lucky I hardly ever get colds or flu and when I do get a cold it's over pretty quickly. I've had real flu and I felt like I'd been kicked all over. As for the Queen she is pretty old and a cold or flu will be horrendous. Elderly people often end up in hospital with bad flu. My Mum had bad flu and nearly went to A & E as it was so painful. I think the Queen will recover but she will still be out of action for a couple more weeks to a month.

Who's stopping her from retiring?

Her own beliefs; ingrained from an early age by family interests and a lot of pressure exerted by numerous misguided sycophants.

She's up and about, not taken to her bed so she must be recovering well. At 90 she has to look after herself, and her health and strength is her priority.

I was pleased to see that she didn't attend church because of it. I detest seeing those fierce royalists who stand outside Sandringham and Balmoral regularly to catch a glimpse of her. There was one of them featured on the news - elderly and in wheelchair clutching a toy corgi ! I can just imagine the conversations between the royals as they sweep past them in their cars.

She was asked. What would you have said if she had refused to answer?

Her awful mother always blamed her father's premature death on Edward not doing his duty when he abdicated instead of kowtowing to the lot of them. Conveniently ignoring King George's own responsibility for his lung cancer, chain smoking. Handy ey?

You can only retire from a job if it is a proper job.......and being the monarch isn't really a proper job.

Couple that with the best healthcare that money can buy (a lot better than the taxpayers who subsidise her and her extended family get), and ill health is only really a result of old age.

She could have retired or as they call it abdicated years ago had she wanted to.

Whatever you views are of Prince Chas, he is the next in line and could have been King 25 years ago if his mum had "retired" at 65.
