I do not like cash. The more payments I can make by card the better. I love the on-line payments to tradesmen too. Our window cleaner is paid that way, no need to keep cash, I just transfer my money from my bank straight into his bank account. I have quite a few tradesmen use that now.

Cash is a damn nuisance, coins in pockets and carrying wads of notes in wallets, two cards (debit and credit) is all that is needed to replace those. The only time I use cash these days is for car parking and the sooner the all machines are calibrated to take contactless cards the better. I always use a debit card but very rarely a credit card.
I agree. Nothing worse than needing to buy a big purchase in cash. I hate carrying down the stacks of notes. When my girlfriend bought a car in the summer we had to buy it in cash (about £2500) and it really put me on edge carrying that kind of money from the bank to my car and then leaving it in my house overnight. I feel much easier with my debit card, and if I lose my wallet at least nobody can be off with that kind of money if they don't know my pin.

At the end of the day it is up to individuals how they wish to pay for services or goods, if I go out without money in my wallet it do not seem right.

It is the being pushed into things I do not like, while my bank is not so bad, other banks are pushing contactless onto people, I know you do not have to use it, but it is still on the card. My bank do at least or did give people a choice, I was able to get a non-contactless card sent, we will see what they send in March when my card expires.

Car parking by card is fine if it works, some of our carparks here have been changed to card and cash and pay as you exit, which is better than paying as you enter, the problem is if something goes wrong with your card or the systems goes belly up and all you got is cards and no cash what do you do?

While cards are all very well, I still prefer the feel of good old cash.

I thought they wouldn't let the transaction receipt print until the card was removed, hmm.

Guess not. Although such a feature would eradicate this entirely.

I used to roll my eyes and tut when I heard of people doing that , I mean really how stupid and careless can you get ?
Then 3 days before Christmas we were in tesco, went through the self service tills , paid by card and walked off leaving the card in the machine .
It must have registered sub consciously in hubby's brain though because as we packed the car he suddenly stopped and began searching through his pockets and noticed the card missing . Quick dash back into tesco and it was at the customer services .
It gives you a fright right enough .

In the past I've had cards stopped and the bank fraud department call me up to check that it was me using it, as there was a lot of 'unusual' activity on it. I don't know if they still do that or if people use their cards so much now it'd be hard to quantify what 'unusual' activity was!
I've had the bank phone occasionally to check the transactions, most notably when I was sorting my plans for several football matches at once and ran up nearly £200 of match and train tickets in a few minutes.

Best one however was when Capital One called to check on some transactions and it turned out my card had somehow been compromised. They cancelled it, then said that because my account was overdue I had to pay off the full balance before they would issue me a new one. On checking, I discoverd I had indeed neglected to make a payment-the first and, so far, only time I've failed to pay a bill on time. I paid off the balance but when I asked them to confirm that I'd receive a new card once the payment had cleared, they said no, I'd have to reapply for a new card! Said I didn't see why I had to do that and told them to close the account. Didn't hear any more, the expiry date of my old card came and went, then a couple of years later I received a letter saying my account was being closed because i hadn't used my card for two years!
