Just how was 2009 that long ago?
I know it feels like only a few years ago but it will be 10 years ago in a couple of years in 2019.

They currently feel about 16 years away but I reckon by the end of this year they'll feel about 17 years away so yes, they do feel more and more distant,

It is now 20 years since 1997, does anyone else find it slightly alarming how distant the 90s feel now, when they always seemed so recent? or am i just talking rubbish?
The 90's was a totally different era to now. Different atmosphere and different dynamics.

So much has changed since then.

I have twice heard my favourite song from 1992 on the radio today. Incredible to think that the 25th anniversary of it making number 1 will be in October this year! (The song is Tasmin Archer's Sleeping Satellite btw).

I remember that one ...........good record !

That must have been around when I got cable TV because I hadn't taken much interest in pop music for a few years prior to that but suddenly had all the music channels on TV and that was one of the songs being played a lot

she was spinning round in the video !

Being a kid in the late 90s was great for me. Quality English Football players like Beckham, Owen and Shearer (I just can't see the England players of today being as well liked by kids) the Harry Potter books, great morning TV such as SMTV and Diggit and lots more.

Thank you for being so positive about it Swingaleg!

Two other things that make the 90s feel distant are so few low-floor buses, mobiles or internet access then.

I think the 90's was the last 'interesting' decade. Not the best for any one reason, and the 00's were good, but marred by the NY attacks - after that nothing was the same. People became more suspicious and serious.

The 90's were also one of the golden ages for films, and despite the hype, recent films are just not hitting the mark. But yes, they are seeming more distant, especially as in the early 90's the 80's were just one year past - and look how retro the 80's are seen as now. Shame, but what can you do?

It does seem a long time ago now. I left school in 1994, went on to sixth form, which I left in 1997 so that's 20 years ago.

Up until 1995, I still had all 4 grandparents too. Used to go round to my grandma every Saturday lunchtime for sausage and chips, right up until a few months before she died in June 1995.

I bet they were top notch sausage and chips too! Its the things like this we miss the most isn't it? I miss my Gran's hugs. Unreplacable.

I'm 51 in April, but in my heart I'm still 21!! It's a shock when I look in the mirror!
I'm 51 and feel it but still party like an 18 year old.

When someone says you still look mid 30s it makes you feel so good

I was born in June 1989 and refuse to consider myself an 80's baby given I only had 6 months of the 80's left and all my childhood memories are the 90's so yeah it does seem like a whole lifetime away from the 90s for me, great childhood memories of the 90s though for sure.

The 90s for me seemed to go on forever. Then once I got past 21 in 2002 the time has flown by.

Weirder, the difference between 1977 and 1945 is 32 years and 2017 and 1977 is 40 years

So the beginning of Punk in 1977 is closer to the end of the World War 2 than 2017 is closer to 1977

Even though I was born in the 80s, I don't really have any vivid memories until the 90s. I was also a teenager from the mid 90s all the way into the new millennium. For me when I think of the 90s it is the Spice Girls, Oasis, Friends on TV, getting bottles of cheap cider and drinking with friends (not good). They do seem a bit far now, life just got better and better. Even though I wasn't particularly ambitious I always new I'd escape the bleakness of my small town and live a good life in a big city and I do.

The 90's are strange for me, I spent a bit of the late 80's & most of the decade out of the country working in Germany and France and so it's like a decade never happened I have no real idea of who The Stone Roses.

Similarly most of Britpop was missed, partly an age thing and also it wasn't that big a thing elsewhere
