I loved the episode, and the previous one. I haven't been enamoured with SOC so far, but have really enjoyed the recent episodes. While I agree that killing off the Mitchell sisters could turn out to be a mistake in the longer term, their exit was really well done.
For some reason, that final shot of them floating in the pool, reminded me of the end of Coppola's Bram Stokers Dracula, where the two main characters are depicted in a fresco - gowns flowing, fates intertwined and never to be parted. It was very gothic and haunting. The camerawork was on a par with what could be expected out of a serious BBC drama. My OH isn't a big soap fan but he has been gushing about the last couple of episodes.

It was filmed beautifully. Simply stunning.

I blame Roxy for their deaths. An absolute trainwreck of a character. I knew she'd get Ronnie killed one of these days. I definitely think Roxy as a character and the Mitchell Sisters as a duo had run their course but I think there was more to see with Ronnie post Roxy.

Either way it was a highly memorable exit. I don't really think the show is going to miss them. Especially not Roxy who was a minor character who clung to Ronnie's coat tails for the majority of her tenure. It's a pity Ronnie came back so soon after her first exit. She'd be a lot more viable if her comeback happened now. This second stint was basically worthless.

agreed, the episode was beautifully shot and i really enjoyed it (the shots of them dancing were a great call back) however both of them drowning in a pool seemed a bit silly. Roxys death was very sudden and it wasn't made very clear what actually happened to her. I'm assuming we'll find out more tomorrow? The writing of them both has felt very repetitive in the past month or so imo, so in a way i'm glad its done with. Poor Ronnie cursed to the very end

The way their bodies were floating at the bottom of the pool were kinda creepy (not helped by the silent credits). Also that wedding dress needs to star in it's own horror film, got a mind of it's own that (and clearly a massive Ronnie hater, it just couldn't wait to drown her).

Agreed. Not SOC's best decision

This. Certainly a powerful episode, and definately a mistake to kill them off.

Wishful thinking there, Gav!

The ending was beautifully done (IMO), but both R&R had much more to offer. It's all down to good writing. I still maintain a short "rest" would have been sufficient. They could've been brought back later this year refreshed....

What happened to Roxy was the most puzzling. She took her dress off (I thought) and was only wearing a slip before "bombing" into the pool (so there goes the head bump theory). How she got caught or bumped her head is something they'll have to explain. I don't know enough about the effects of coke to know if it causes a person to pass out randomly, especially after a sudden change of environment (surface to pool). She jumped in and that was it.

Could not agree more!!! I kept asking if I'd missed something, what is this HUGE secret, and it was "oh my sister might move too" they were moving a few miles away LOL

It felt so over dramatic American soap-y. The ending was not believable, it would have been better if they did fall from the roof instead of them dying in a pretty shallow pool!

I will say I did enjoy some of the camera shots from the reception. So are we stuck with Glendale is she off for good now?

I've never related to their "inseparable" dynamic. It was too overdone and downright creepy. To risk a marriage "unless your sister can move to the same area" was just laughable. I understand that Albert Square is a microcosm society but the native that fahmlee must live in each others pockets or life can't go on has always been funny.

I won't miss the "you're my sistah" line one bit.

I thought the episode was pretty decent apart two things.

First, the Carter shoehorning is STILL going on. Why was Mick Jack's best man when he has hardly even spoken to him? Because they wanted to give Mick as much screen time as possible. We also had to sit through the ghastly scenes with Mick and Lee, quite why they are giving Lee screen time in the run up to his exit is a mystery to me, he cannot act and if they wanted to do a depression storyline, why not use Ben or Jay instead because either could pull it off much, much better than Lee who just comes across as a big girl's blouse.

Secondly, having worked in the hotel trade, I know that all areas you don't want drunken guests wandering in to in the middle of the night are locked i.e. leisure facilities, kitchens, the roof. There is no way they should have been able to get into the swimming pool room in the first place, this is basic common sense!

I've not watched much Eastenders lately but watched last night - just can't get those final moments out my head! It was stunning imagery (I love the Titanic version on youtube too!). They remind me of my own sisters and how incredibly close they were (one died), but seeing their deaths has hit me harder than I thought it would.

Watching back, she jumps in the pool at about 11.52 we don't go back to Ronnie until about 11.54 so there has been a time lapse. When I first watched, it seemed like the Ronnie moment was straight after Roxy jumped in but that wasn't the case.

The clock chiming too made it more creepy.

Where was Ronnie when Roxy went off to Ibiza - presumably to spend all the money she had been left when Archie popped his clogs. Either managing without her sister or in prison and NOT being visited by her I suppose. The whole "sistah's forevvah"
thing was nauseating.

I disagree - I think the Mick and Lee storyline was an important one over the week, no shoehorning involved - Danny is an excellent actor (and a great chap to boot). He has been excellent in portraying a man with depression that has been building and building almost to the brink of suicide; a desperate act calls for desperate measures. I think EE has brought to focus that young men usually suffer in silence, which usually leads to suicide, especially at Christmas and New Year. A big well done to EE, Danny Boy Hatchard, Danny Dyer and all others involved in this particular storyline.

As for Ronny and Roxy - what an amazing and emotional end to the sisters, I was in tears, something of which I do not often do. That final scene of silence apart from the bell chimes and the two sisters together are both iconic and also haunting; not often a scene remains in your head, both as visuals and the sounds also. I think it was a very fitting end to a very troubled set of characters; they will be missed. I do hope that both actresses appear in other things and I wish them both well

I thought it was quite a powerful ending - they arrived together ten years ago, and now they died together. It also opens up new storyline possibilities for Max and Jack.
