Tragic and horrible though thankfully police have the culprits in custody. It wouldn't surprise me if the driver had been drinking but even if sober he's facing serious jail time.
i don't call 6/7 years out in 3 serious jail time for killing someone and think its about time the judges started handing out the maximum 14 years

As another poster said their ages are irrelevant really though i agree they do look older. However it's been reported on both tv and radio main news for the past five hours now as 11 and 12 year olds, so i think if their photos and ages were incorrect then it would have been corrected long ago by now.

The eldest was killed at the scene but the younger cousin is critical fighting for her life.
The second girl has died http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-38487637

I have had enough of these "i own the road and do what i want idiots". Its about time the punishment started fitting the crime, anyone who gets into a car drunk, drugged up or just to act the big man and race, speed or drive stupidly does so in full knowledge that the vehicle they are in charge of is capable of killing.

This is therefore pre meditated murder and should be dealt with as such, no slap on the wrist, no banned from driving for a few months (seriously??? you think they worry about having a license?).

Long long prison sentences or yeah why not worse, it absolutely sickened me when i saw the headlines on the news over the new year fireworks, these poor parents are never ever going to be able to go through new year again without remembering this.

Never actually wished physical harm on any other human being (a few have come close) but i hope they catch these inhuman things and deal with the full force of the (laughable) laws.

Don't really care what the pc people say, they sicken me as well, the roads are becoming too full of these animals who think they own the roads, can do what they want at what speed they want, park where they want and make up their own rules to suit themselves.
The sooner these scum are cleared of the roads the better.

Complain and bitch away, anyone who cannot agree with at least some of this is as bad as them.

Tragic. How could anyone drive off and leave them.

My brother was run over by a car when he was 5 (he's still alive, was in hospital for some time, in plaster cast from the waist down) and the guy drove off, but they did catch him. He was drunk.

My daughter was hit by a car a few years ago - or, should I say, the car was hit by my daughter, as she went into the road and into a (very slow-moving) car. No injury sustained and the driver, a taxi driver, was mortified. He stopped, got out and helped Jr. I explained to everybody that it had been Jr's fault* and not his, she was having a tantrum at the time. Fortunately it all ended well.

*My fault really, I couldn't foresee that she'd do that, but I guess I should have been more on-the-ball.

They possibly will. This is a very serious case not only because of the deaths of both girls but because the driver fled the scene. I suspect it's likely the driver had been drinking and witnesses said the car was speeding so all this will be taken into account.

This driver got 12 years http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news...-years-8378600

And this one, http://www.nottinghampost.com/eastwo...ail/story.html

Yes i heard on the news earlier. Very tragic for the family involved even though from reports last night it didn't sound too good.

Someone has set up a funding page to help the family.

https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/sallie-lou

Also a car parts business, Multi Car Parts at Oldham has offered to meet any bills.

You are right. Certainly the girl on the left looks much older than 12!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...ester-38483392

When I saw this on the news I thought they had got the age wrong.

So sad and hope the killers get what they deserve but doubt it

They should charge the driver with manslaughter.

This is the car described as "poor condition". The rear tailgate window covered with taped over sheeting is not from the accident but how it was found by police.

It's the make-up I think that is making one of them look older. Anyway, RIP.

Four charged, just seen on the news. The driver for a string of offences, and three passengers for perverting the course of justice.

No doubt that the taxpayer will cough up for legal defence, a translator, and the possible ongoing costs of prison.........

Two girls killed, that must have been a ridiculous speed he was travelling at. I just don't understand this need for speed some people have. It only cuts off seconds from your journey ffs.

Murder is a bit dodgy, because you have to prove that he intended to cause GBH, which would be difficult in a case like this, whereas manslaughter you only have to prove recklessness.

Why would they need a translator?

Slightly off-topic, but the pictures I saw of the girls made them look more like 16-18 year olds than 12 year olds. Do a lot of 12 year olds wear makeup to that extent these days?

Needless to say I hope the driver is caught. No excuse for hitting and running - had the driver stopped and got medical assistance, may the girl that died be alive now I wonder?

Very sad.
Yeah I noticed that, I did think 12, really?
