Trump defiant as US body count rises in Iran conflict.
"President Trump struck a defiant tone as the US Military efforts in Iran faltered with the US body count now standing at 11,000. The President was due to make a statement regarding the accidental attack on a Iranian nuclear power plant but released a short tweet "The gens are doing a great job. We have tremendous plans - gonna defeat the terrorists!" |

Unlikely from what I've heard of how the French voting system works.
I might be wrong, but as far as I understand it everyone votes for their favourite candidate and if nobody gets more than 50% of the vote then there's another round of voting. In round 2. and it'd be a massive upset if there wasn't a round 2, only the top 2 candidates from round 1 are on the ballot paper and it's a straight head-to-head race. Most commentators I've heard, and yes, commentators can well be wrong as we've seen with Brexit and Trump believe that if she gets into a head-to-head battle that she'd lose. People who didn't vote for her in round 1 are not likely to do so in round 2 and if anything would be quite likely to tactically vote against her. Also, I think I'm right in saying that the Union for a Popular Movement party, which lost out in round 2 last time in a close-run 51.6%/48.4% defeat under Sarkozy have nominated a fairly right-wing candidate themselves in the form of Franēois Fillon. That might stop those thinking of abandoning that party in favour of Le Pen from doing so, and might even attract some of Le Pen's voters from last time over to their side as on paper they stand a good chance of winning having only lost narrowly the last time. Edit: Geert Wilders seems to be in a strong position in the Netherlands as far as far-right candidates are concerned. Just looked it up and he's odds-on favourite with the bookies. |

Parliament would be opened via a Royal Commission. It wouldn't be a State Opening, but would carry the same authority. The Queen's Speech would be read by the Lord Chancellor from the Woolsack (or rather, the bench that acts as the Woolsack when the Lords Commissioners sit - the actual Woolsack is too small for all of them).
In such a situation, we would be treated to a tremendous amount of hat doffing. ![]() ETA love the link!

'Mass slaughter in Islamic extremist terrorist attack on European soil'.
Yet again. It's inevitable. I hope Merkel is proud of herself. |

Mount Etna has a major eruption and there will be another catastrophic tanker oil leak.... that's the vision I had when I dropped a bat wing into the pool of source anyway.
It's either that or the oil slick was actually a vinyl record and Mount Etna means I'm going to get a boil. |
