Smart TV for bedroom
Hi All,
I'm looking on getting a new Smart TV for the bedroom (32"-40", budget up to £350), but I'm not sure which one to go for, or even if one fits my requirements. All the viewing is going to come exclusively from the Smart TV apps, so it has to have Netflix, iPlayer and ITV Player. I'll also be streaming from a DLNA server (Serviio) so would need to be compatible with this. I'm not looking for 4K or a curved screen, picture and sound quality have to be reasonable, but not outstanding (e.g. I don't want to have to turn it up to 60 just to hear dialogue). Ease of use and reliability of the apps are really important - I've read several reviews that state the apps or the TV freeze or often crash - I'm looking for the same quality experience I get using Netflix and iPlayer on my Xbox One. I've been looking into Freeview Play TVs, but there's going to be no aerial feed in the bedroom, so I'm wondering if the EPG will still get updated? Does such a TV exist, or am I better off buying a dumb TV, and then adding an Amazon Fire stick (or other device) to it. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks, Bob. |

Better off getting a dumb TV and adding another device. Aps tend to go out of date and other device is cheaper to replace than the TV.
Also get an aerial feed to the bedroom. |

You might also find ITV Player won't work unless the TV has been connected to an aerial and tuned in - but you can usually do this elsewhere, and then take it to your bedroom where it still works OK. |

We've seen this with older versions of iPlayer and YouTube being deprecated for example so you'll inevitably end up buying one at some point anyway... |

you are better off not worrying about picture quality and getting an amazon firestick.

I agree that smart tvs become dumb over time - it's probably just another way that manufactures can reduce the cycle time between us buying new stuff. My Sony TV was a revelation when I first bought it - it even has a 'Netflix' button on the remote - but now my Netflix app doesn't even work.

Also get an aerial feed to the bedroom. Frankly there are so few 'non smart' TVs around, particularly at the size the OP is looking at, it makes more sense to get a Smart TV with some decent features. At 40" - for £ 350 one of these ought to fit the bill perfectly http://www.johnlewis.com/panasonic-v...mming/p2611248 providing the OP isn't worried about not being able to receive foreign transmissions
