I'm still in denial and hoping someone finds them in the nick of time so at least Ronnie lives. Can't see Roxy surviving as she was in there a lot longer. I'm guessing Robbie survives and leaves with Jack & kids (hoping that Scott Maslen's 'departure' has been kept secret so as not to spoil the ending for this episode!). I love Rack and would
Miss them but would rather they left alive!!

I disagree with Roxy gettinf killed off. That Death for Ronnie was not very satisfying.

This would be my definition as well. Ben is a legacy character. Ronnie is not.

Finally someone who understands the term 'legacy' is not a substitute for 'iconic' - legacy refering to 'carrying on the Mitchell/Beale/Fowler name

This is what I said in another thread. It makes it more sad the fact it wasn't their choice.

I imagine Sam in particular, just because she was a famous name even before EE, had presumed she would have a job for life at EE, and that she would be able to take sabbaticals and do other roles, then just come back to EE when it suited her. So it must've come as such a shock to her to not only be written out against her wishes, but written out permanently!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying as a fact Sam presumed she had a job for life, just that it wouldn't surprise me if she did think that.

I completely agree. There is very rarely a reason to kill off big characters as their is always a chance they will return in the future. Producers shoot themselves in the foot with these things. All for short term shock value usually. All the crap infesting EE and they kill off those two! I guess there could always be a twist to come in that someone comes rushing in and one of them is revived, but it looked pretty final from the closing shots.

These are two characters which could of had 101 dramatic endings which did not involve being killed off and feasibly able to return in the future.
Ronnies past catching up with her? Her relationship with Jack going tits up? A cindy style 'abduction' of her kids and disappearing?
All far more entertaining for a start than that swimming pool saga.
It all just seems like such a waste.

Whilst it made excellent viewing and the idea was pretty original as soaps go, part of me wonders if this was a short sighted decision. In a few years time will whoever is running things wish Ronnie and Roxy hadn't been killed off because there would have been a perfect reason to bring them back? Then we will all be moaning about sime ridiculous fake death storyline when their return is announced. 😂

She says that it was an appropriate end to a dark year, not an appropriate end for Ronnie.

She showed more drama in that tweet than in her ten years on the show .
She started off quite promising but just got more drab and boring as the years went by . She was well past her sell by date . Time for some new fresh faces to get bedded in before we see the demise of some of the older characters .

The main issue for me is that EE killing big names like Pat, Lucy, Ronnie and Roxy but haven't any new characters of the caliber of those they're killing. Like the majority of newbies are flops.

so basically a re hash of every thing that has already been done before? - sometimes you have to shake a cast up and this could lead the Mitchells into a new direction - Ronnie and Roxy's antics caused nothing but trouble for Phil - even the gun that Shirley used to shoot him came from Ronnie! and Jack too, something different for him instead of continually battling with Roxy for Ronnie's attention, it is indeed a new era

Bless her. It was a pretty bloody traumatic way to go so it's hardly surprising that she's "broken"

In a few years time we'll have Louise coming into her own . Then we have Courtney waiting in the wings , AND yankee Mark . So there will be no shortage of Mitchells to cause mayhem . I doubt anyone will remember Roxy and Ronnie apart from the interesting way they were offed .

Legacy character, original cast, who cares..

Sam had proven time and time again on her ten years on Eastenders that she was a competent and adept actress and she was an asset to the show.

My heart has broken for Ronnie so many times over the last decade and that is mostly due to Sam's great performances.

I just can't believe she had to suffer such a grisly end.

As far as killing off endings in soap go- their death was excellent, it just shouldn't have happened.

Oh if only
But part of me also thinks that it's better that the sisters died together, Ronnie would NEVER recover from losing Roxy, she would probably go completely off the rails and vice versa. I do wish one of them had survived though

I don't see how, unless there were pretend scenes of them being resuscitated just to keep them in the dark
