The last great Xmas one was probably stax reveal .

However they have delivered on New Years days where as recent Xmas ones always seem to be a letdown

Archie's death was a really good Xmas episode in 2009, as was Janine's arrest/the Carters' arrival in 2013.

In the last three years though, the Xmas eps have been a bit meh. In 2014 the only highlight was Mick beating the stuffing out of Dean (the Boxing Day episode was a lot better). 2015 was all over the place despite the Mitchell/Beale stuff. This year was drama-free save for Lee's arrest.

Yeah New Years does seem to be the new Christmas, it's probably a more fitting time to have a big story as well, in with the new and out with old, the memories of the past year and the uncertainty ahead.

Christmas really is just a day we all eat, drink and sit on the sofa, that's what made STAX such a good reveal because that's exactly what they were doing, it was a quiet episode apart from the drama unfolding inside the Branning house! That was the New Year when Kevin died as well wasn't it? That was great festive period in EastEnders.

I've loved this year to be honest, the Christmas episode won't be known for anything in years to come but it was fun and enjoyable to watch. New Years will be unforgettable.

I think Archie's death in 2009 was better than the STAX reveal.

Also, I enjoyed the 2010 Christmas Day episode when Janine framed Stacey. I remember it for a huge audience of 11.4 million

2013 was also a good Christmas.
