I think Roy leaving ELO was more to do with the manager Don Arden playing them off against each other. I think Jeff's songs on the first ELO album are better than Roy's as original concepts personally although I like them both. I often think it's a shame that they didn't make more music as The Move, I like the last two albums they did.

My most successful poll to date and thanks to all who have voted so far.

Mr. Blue Sky has continually had almost 50% of the vote, currently the top three are...

22 - MR. BLUE SKY - 45.83%
11 - LIVIN' THING - 22.92%
10 - 10538 OVERTURE - 20.83%

I thought Mr. Blue Sky would win before I saw any votes.

My top vote goes to the criminally ignored "Calling America" (after they'd slimmed down to a 3 piece in 1986), followed by "Twilight" and yes, "Mr Blue Sky". Am I the only person who thinks they got better in the 1980s rather than worse?

no, clearly not.... but elo are abit like fleetwood mac, their early incarnation was different from their later one and that often divides fans.

personally i only really like the very early material of both acts.

I was a big fan of the ELO in the way-back-when, but really only liked the albums from New World Record through to Time

Struggled to find a particular set of 3 from the singles of that time, went for Rockaria, Sweet Talking Woman (because of the memories of playing it very loud on Parent's Radiogramme) and Living Thing

But I do really like the songs from Time

Also, coming from the West Midlands I like spotting the Birmingham References in Lynne's lyrics. Horrified to see that Kelly Groucutt died in Worcester Hospital that's just across the road from where Parents now live

I like it when this happens. Makes the music more personal to some. And you chose two out of my three too.
