Good read for all the "it was unrealistic" posters tonight.

Drowning is quick, silent and not at all like you normally see on television. This is how Roxy most likely drowned, alcohol and drugs affecting her system, clothing weighing her down and muscles weak so she sank to the bottom. Ronnie drowned because her dress weighed her down and eventually tangled her up with Roxy who was a dead weight at the bottom of the pool.

It didn't help that Roxanne didn't know how to swim.

I don't think people realise how quickly you can drown especially after having a lot to drink, we are so used to seeing people in television dramas and films thrashing about in the water long enough for someone to spot them and a heroic rescue happens in the nick of time, sadly this is not always how it happens in reality, In the north we often read about such tragedies, in Durham three young students died after falling in the river in a little over a year, all had been drinking heavily, three students and two soldiers drowned in York after drinking in a four year period

It was believable. Roxy has taken drugs the night before and been drinking all day.

Look at the amount of people who die on a night out, alcohol induced and fall in to a river.

So much so there rumours of a serial killer doing it because it's become so common.

I didn't think the article was particularly linked to R&R drowning. It was focused on swimming in the sea and how alcohol would numb you to tidal currents.

I interpreted Roxy's death to be similar to Whitney Houston who had taken drugs, stood up in the shower, blacked out and drowned.

It was utter bullshit, theyd have never been able to get into the pool room!

What wasnt realistic at all was the fact the hotel had left the door open at 12 midnight with no lifeguards for all and sundry to fall in . It simply wouldnt be done IMO

That isn't how Whitney died though. Her body went into shock because the water was literally boiling but she didn't realise as the drugs were affecting her legs preventing the nerves communicating with the brain. This couldn't have happened to Roxy as the pool wasn't that hot.

I got the impression that Roxy just passed out while in the water, hence why Ronnie didn't hear anything. I don't think it was to do with Roxy not being able to swim, she would have at least attempted if she was conscious.

That does explain a lot. They had been outside in the cold as well which as explained in the article, automatically leads to some degree of loss of feeling in the arms and legs.

Even more believable now.

Thanks for that Tullochs

Another reason Roxy may not have reappeared from the water is, she could have hit her head underwater and obviously would have knocked her out.

Think I'm with the group of people who are wondering how they got into the pool area in the first place. Surely with a wedding on, a lot of drunk people and small children that room would be locked.

Had one of them fallen off the bridge and the other diving into to save their sister, especially since both of them would have their dresses on at that point which could get caught on whatever was at the bottom of the lake or simple tangled up in each other, I think that would have worked better.

Although the end image of the sisters floating in the pool water was wonderfully eerie.

That's what I thought plus a hotel with no cctv. They should have both just fell off that wall.

It would have been so much more believable if Roxy had said she felt ill and faint and that she thought a dip in the pool might cool her down. Focusing on a depth measurement at the side of the pool saying 6ft for just a second would also have helped with making it more convincing. Yes, people drown in shallow water but usually they've hit their head or become incapacitated first. Otherwise, they stand up and walk out.

And then Ronnie dying because roxy does something stupid and she's bails her out and ends up getting 'dragged down with her'

Kind of fitting isn't it.
