Hosted by Rob Walker too, i like him, he's got tonnes of enthusiasm

Glad John Rawling is among the commentary team too
That's good to hear. Always liked Rob on whatever he does (excellent when he commentates on track and field - extremely knowledgeable) As you say Darren, he has tonnes of enthusiasm.

Looking forward (as always) to the BDO.

Now I want to watch this again, finding out it's been moved to BT Sport (there's a surprise) but also available on C4, today (3rd January) I don't see anything this afternoon on C4 listing but was reading online that C4 have the rights to afternoon sessions, mens semis and shared coverage of the mens final so, wondering when it's next on?

Just noticed it doesn't start until Saturday.

It has started on the first Saturday in January every year since I can remember. Only exception was in 2000 when it fell on NYD and they wanted to leave it a week after the Millennium celebrations (or, to translate, Bob Potter was having a party at Lakeside instead!)

Yes it threw me a bit because usually one follows the other right away?

I never saw darts live at Lakeside but growing up in nearby Farnham as children we went for Sunday lunches there and I can remember meeting Bob Potter and his three daughters; he must be an age now mustn't he?

Ive already explained above: it starts the first Saturday in January. Due to how NYD falls, some years it will clash for a few days, and other years it wont clash at all. There will probably be no clash at all now until at least 2020 when NYD falls on a Thursday, Lakeside will start 2 days later whilst Ally Pally will be at the SF stage that day more then likely, with its final on the 2nd January.

There will definitely be a clash in 2021, mind.

Has been on BT since 2015, and was on ESPN in 2012 and 2013 too.

Having taken a hiatus from it, it's going to feel a lot different not being on BBC and with breaks for the wretched advertisements presumably.

At least it will now be consistent, was ridiculous that some games had breaks and others did not, should be the same for all players.

Judging by the length of the C4 broadcasts, looking like there could be a lot of breaks. Either that or they are just being cautious.

I would expect there will probably be no commercial break between sets 3 and 4 of a long match, and none between the final 2 sets just like they do on Sky.

The days when they played 3 to 7 sets in a row without a break have gone forever. And for the better really.

If you have lost a set or 2 in the old era where there was only a break in between in matches that lasted 9 to 13 sets the opponent was in such an ascendancy and it was difficult for you to recover until the second half of the match. Now with the players stopping for a few minutes every set or 2 the opponent that had the momentum before it may very well falter and lose the full head of steam they built up straight after the break suddenly allowing the losing player a way back into it.
