EE: Would Mick and Lee's confrontation have been better than killing R&R?

Said in other threads it's two characters leaving anyway (in storyline) killed in a way that's not going to have any impact going forward. Nobody else involved, nobody else involved. Just a one and done deal.

Could they have instead gone big with Lee's confession to Mick? Huge New Years Day bust up at the Vic. Mick overhears Whitney and Lee talk about his involvement with the burglary and he goes ballistic. Throws Whitney out and smashes up the place in anger at Lee who tries to calm him but Mick goes for him. Lee runs up on the roof to get away from him and Mick follows.

In his anger he's got Lee by the collar, shaking him.

"How could you do this Lee?"

Lee, feeling guilty, begs his Dad to throw him over the edge.

"Do it Dad. I I didn't have the balls the other day but......"

The Samaritans card falls out of Lee's pocket. Mick's confused. What does he mean he didn't have the balls to do it the other day?

Lee confesses he nearly killed himself, Mick's shocked. Long story short: a boo-hoo on the roof. Mick comforts his son but the ongoing thing is whether or not he can forgive him.

....to me it seems better than a random invent killing two characters that has absolutely zero ongoing impact.

it really did need it's own episode, bunching it in with R+R made it anticlimactic. I expected fireworks and we got a short confession, and abit of anger, i'd hate to think it was this lackluster for the sake of fitting it into the episode.

No. An entire episode devoted to Danny Dyer and Danny Boy Hatchard trying to act would not have been a good idea.

I don't think it was anticlimactic at all. I thought the story was carried on nicely and was balanced because Lee has already had 2 episodes devoted to his story and enough screen time yesterday to carry the story. Very good episode all round,

I still think a great ending to what happened in the car park would be Lee getting a parking fine for displaying a defaced ticket.

This - Cockney Geezer and wooden top for an hour would have been dreadful. Depression and suicide in young men is a very important issue but choosing those two was a mistake.

Lee was still trying to worm his way out by shouting at Mick that he " WAS THIS CLOSE TO KILLING HIMSELF " because he felt so bad . He is such a worm and I am really not sure I could watch him and Mick for more than a few minutes .

I thought the Lee and Mick scenes were the best in the episode.

Agree they should have had more time because Lee still was only telling Mick half a story.

I think it would have been a whole lot better if Lee had fessed up at the wedding reception, mick had disowned him, then it was Lee that got drunk and accidently drowned or killed himself.

this would have opened up more avenues, mick would have had to live with the guilt, Whitney would discover the debts and lose her home last, and Ronnie and roxy could have had a happy ending

I think Mick is going to ask Lee to leave Walford.
