It depends. Tuesday for my Son's school. Thursday for some secondary schools and some even go back next week because of inset days.

whatever happened to standardising the school calendar?

Especially needed for parents with different kids in differnet schools.

I think it pretty much is as far as holidays are concerned...it's when the schools decide to use their inset days that adds to the different days.

My son finished the 23rd and is back tomorrow. Can't believe some areas have such long breaks.

They're not, though.

Most places have two weeks. It's just that Christmas and New Year were at the weekend, which makes the school holidays seem longer because there's essentially a week of nothing.

As has been said it pretty much is at present with a few variations within areas but not too many days apart . The bit that worries some is if schools really take on the setting of their own term dates with big changes (schools as I believe they are now able) without working with other schools and make them very different to nearby schools which could cause chaos for parents with kids in more than one school

So forgetting weekends only 6 days holiday, I always thought it was two weeks for Christmas. Most schools I know of broke up around 16th December and go back either this Thurs, Fri or next Monday.

They must be putting most/all of the inset days in at one go.

My daughter broke up the 16th December, but 19th & 20th was inset days...and back to school on 4th January.
