I see BBC1 is 90% back to normal programming the day and that ITV is 80/85% back to normal programming. Yet the day is still a bank holiday for many as New Year was on a Sunday this year.
Also the 2nd January has always been a bank holiday up here in Scotland.
A few people I know don't go back to work till the 3rd or 4th January.
I know about 85% of shops are open the day but even the buses up here are running a Sunday service the day and normal service as of tomorrow.
It seems like the TV can't wait to get back to near normal programming from 2nd January yet 70% of the UK are still on holiday till at lest 3rd January. With some getting an extra day off as New year was on a Sunday.
In my opinion TV should only go back to normal sort of schedules from 3rd January.

That's the thing though in recent years with this bank holiday, as well as Easter, May and August holidays, the schedules are pretty much normal.

Why can't they show more family friendly films as they did last week?

BBC2 is showing the animated films today from 8.50am to 12noon as BBC1 has gone back to normal.

ITV is back to normal at 2.45pm

Channel 4 has been showing childrens animations and family films all over the holidays and does so today aswell as part of its new remit

Many of the Sky and UKTV channels are still in holiday mode too.

Then theres all the premier league bank holiday football on sky sports etc...

I think you should rename your thread "BBC1 listings back to normal"

BBC1 doesn't really return to normal until tomorrow as the 6pm news is at 6.30 tonight.

Gold is still "Christmas Gold" for one more day, it's mostly movies and non festive episodes of comedies though.

Oh well, only 10 months until Channel 5 start showing Christmas movies again.

My decorations are down, it's 2017, let's look forward not backward, nice to see new shows, there are still holiday season films on BBC2.

I recorded many holiday shows, still have many to watch.

To be fair this bank holiday today should have been moved to Summer as its not needed. As for TV, bar a little differentiation it's the same as any other day.

Yes you are right but also the 2nd January has always been a bank holiday in Scotland no matter what day New Year's day falls on.
Yes there are some channels that are not fully back to normal till tomorrow but the likes of BBC1 and ITV are mostly back to normal
As I said above some people don't go back till the 3rd or 4th January this year.
It's always been the 3rd January that nearly 70% Scotland has gone back to work.

Anyone wanting holiday season shows, they are still on IPlayer.

But there's no apparent reason for it being at 6.30. It's basically the normally daytime shows rearranged a bit to make the schedule look different to an ordinary day. There's no film or anything.

It's similar to the spring and summer bank holidays. It's as if rule number 1 for the schedules is to first place the news bulletins 10-30 minutes earlier or later, then work from there, even if the programmes are the same as a normal Monday.

Still going on about Harry Potter.

If it wasn't BBC1 that was being criticised you'd be leading the outrage.

What do you mean not needed ?

It is needed because NYD was on a Sunday.

The 26th December as said is a Bank Holiday in Scotland as well as the 2nd January.
Also from the link above my work has never had the last Monday in May off as a Holiday and the first Monday in August has been added to our annual leave so we can take that day when we want. Some parts of Scotland also get a holiday Monday in the middle of July and I don't see the point of that holiday.

Surprised JK is not on seeing as Judge Rinder is on with new episodes, seeing how close the two shows are in production teams terms.

Seems to be most bank holidays last year had near-normal schedules on all channels. It's a bit wrong, but what can you do. TV schedules don't bother me usually, since i mostly use catch-up so can watch anything whenever it suits me anyway.

It is a little wrong, but on the bright side, ITV has aired 4 hours of brand new programming in daytime today, if it was a weekend schedule, it would have been zero.

Also was GMB on today, or didn't they bother?

Am definitely not complaining about an extra day off work. Very much needed.

The sad thing is that a few years ago you would not have had shows returning to normal until after at least January 6th etc. I think t was the first weekend of the new year near to January 6th when new shows etc. Would start.

If you look at the schedules for BBC Radio 1 back in 1988 then they still had Christmas schedules on, I think that the fact that apart from the timings of the News etc. The schedules being as good as back to normal today just goes to show the sad state of today's television that channels are unable to provide enough special programming.

Even BBC Radio 1 and 2 are back to normal tomorrow apart from Sara Cox sitting in for Chris Evans on BBC Radio 2, I remember when Radio 1 just a couple of years ago had the special takeover show after New Year's Day when the likes of Dev and Tim Westwood would present during the daytime.

I am not sure about Tim Westwood but I am sure Trevor Nelson was involved when they counted down the Top Five promising acts for the year ahead, The Sound of. I feel it is such a shame that it is not Twelve Night until 6th January and yet things as good as go back to normal.

Having said that years ago such as back in 1988/9 you would not have the BBC and ITV starting showing Christmas idents until at least I am sure 24th December where as now they as good as start on 1st December, also you have Channel Five with Christmas movies from early to middle November onwards and you have Movie and Music channels on Sky turning into Christmas channels in November.

Not forgetting also the dedicated Christmas stations on DAB etc. As well as Christmas music in shops in November, I feel it would be good to have a Twelve Night celebration and hopefully one year this will come about on Television as well as Radio.
