I can see why there maybe normal programming as of tomorrow for over 60% of the UK will be back to work tomorrow but to have near normal programming on 2nd January should not be as over half of Scotland at lest is still off on the 2nd January. Even some in other parts of the UK have been off work the day due to New Years day being on a Sunday this year.
TV on main Bank Holidays has not been the same in the last few years. Darren |

I remember when the TV schedules used to return to normal after the Christmas period at least from around 5th or 6th January.
If it wasn't for the Bank Holiday being on the 2nd Jan this year, I'm sure the broadcasters would have returned back to completely normal programmes from the 2nd Jan which has unfortunately happened in recent years. I wish the broadcasters would do a 'phased' return to normality. Perhaps for the first week after Christmas, instead of showing a feast of movies in the morning or afternoon, just show 1 movie and then the following week return back to normal scheduling. They could still show the regular daytime programmes on week 1, but still slot in 1 movie somewhere in the schedule. Reverting back to a normal schedule so quickly after New Year's Day in my view is very much 'doom and gloom' as some of us hate having to go back to work after having time off over Christmas. It would just be nice for the schedulers to keep at least a part of the schedule in holiday mode to get us into the new year. Looking on BBC Genome at schedules from previous years, it looks as though 1997 was the last year the BBC stayed in holiday mode until around 6th January. Beyond that schedulers returned to normal scheduling from 2nd or 3rd January, |
