EE A Much better ending for R&R
THIS would have been the best exit for R&R
'Ronnie is blackmailed by the Whites over Carl and FATBOYS deaths She's distraught as she didn't know FATBOY was dead On her wedding day she is told to deliver a car full of drugs to an address When she gets there she finds FATBOY living there. He's been told to not contact anyone in the square or Dot will be harmed The police arrive (the Whites have set her up) She evades them and heads back the square, packs a bag and tries to leave but Roxy jumps in with her They drive off and make it to Dover Just as they think they're home and dry the police spot them A police chase (with helicopter) across the coast ends on a cliff Thelma and Louise style Plunge into the sea and then nothing A couple of weeks pass and Jack receives a phone call We cut to the back of a woman standing on a Portuguese road We pan to see Ronnie who is joined by Roxy. She tells Jack they will be fine and they can arrange to meet up in a few days She hangs up, throws the phone off a cliff and they get into a soft top, sunglasses on and drive triumphantly into the sunset' NOW THIS would have been an exit worthy of these two characters Completely missed a trick here EE |

Utter garbage.
EDIT: Sorry Damon, that was unfair and not nice of me. I apologise. I still think that this is a silly, contrived and sensationalised plot that sounds really ridiculous. I am happy with what happened. |

I'm sorry, but I disagree. As I just said on another thread, I personally much preferred this exit to one which focused on Carl, Charlie or Fatboy.
It stripped away all of the sensationalist plots that the sisters have endured. They died as they lived their lives, tragically and inseparably. There was a real haunting beauty in that last scene which truly put them together forever. |

I also agree that having them die in an accident positioned their exit as a real human tragedy rather than the product of a convoluted or sensationalised plot, though the forum is quite clearly divided on that. |

To be honest anything would have been better than 'random accident'. It's like the product of an incomplete creative meeting several months ago
"Okay, so I've got this idea. Ronnie and Roxy die on Ronnie's wedding day in a swimming pool and......" *FIRE ALARM GOES OFF* "...we'll continue this later" But they never did. Maybe a freak series of events occurred; unmissable dental appointments, traffic problems, flash flooding - meaning that the creative meetings never commenced and that's all we ended up with. |

Don't get me wrong
I thought it was absolutely beautiful. For me as a Ronnie fan it was just unbearably tragic I really REALLY didn't want her to die I always though the sisters deserved a big epic blockbuster of an exit One in which they lived. They're Mitchell's after all. An exit which harkened back to Grants 1999 exit The ending we got, whilst artistically was incredible and perfectly executed It's just to sad for me to comprehend at the moment EE will never be the same for me now. And I'm a fan of 22 years |

I'm happy with the ending but I'm always ready to read other peoples' ideas, including Damons
I lack the imagination, so I'm grateful for those who have that ability. Many threads get lost during the course of a few hours so starting a new one with a slightly different angle is perfectly justified. Post away Damon. |

Maybe: "it was supposed to the happiest day of her life but an unexpected betrayal from an unexpected source ensures that the big day ends in tragedy for the Mitchell sisters." Maybe have Roxy's drug problems escalate in the weeks before Christmas, a dealer gets heavy. She confides in Jay that she's starting a fresh with Ronnie in Ongar and leaves Jay some money to settle her debt with the dealer, but Jay's own drug issues are deeper than we realise. Rather than pass on the money to settle Roxy's debt and getting her off the hook he buys more drugs. The dealer comes calling and Jay doesn't have the money, so now he's gunning for Roxy.... ...etc. You could do all that and still do the 'died on what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life' thing but this way you'd have a legacy of how can Jay cope knowing he was the reason why Roxy was killed and the future implications of his decision. |

I haven't watched Eastenders in a long time but tuned in last night to watch this episode. I thought it was a very powerful ending for two popular characters and what made it even for tragic was that it could happen in real life. Death, accidential or otherwise is dramatic enough, it isn't necessary to introduce any additional twists. I wouldn't have liked your prosposed ending as much as it is so far removed from reality that I wouldn't have found it as relatable.

There's nothing about the death scenes that are going to keep people who don't usually watch, coming back. You can bemoan twists and plots but these are the things that used to keep people watching. Unless people really want to see Dot say 'Oh I say!" and fall backwards onto a fainting couch when she hears the news, then really the mileage out of the death is non-existent and a bit of a waste. Boohooing and one of those weird soap funerals where nobody not already a current character can make it for some reason. That's it. I maintain that for a big end-of-year (beginning, technically) storyline climax that's quite underwhelming. |
