I think you may be referring to Tom Courtenay. He is indeed a wonderful actor.

Similar with S1, the calibre of actors is outstanding. The downside is that as with S1 when you see the likes of Tom Courtenay/Gemma Jones apparently playing no more than extras at the start you know they are going to be significant as the story goes along.

So Wendy Craig probably killed him.

Right- I did this for The Missing, so I am remaining to true to saddo-type and doing it again here: the images in the opening credits which will no doubt all turn out to be significant somehow. Tragic, I know, but the producers put them there knowing that nerds like me will take the bait:

-pub-restaurant table set for two
-sunlight & dust
-woman in retro florals washing up
-ruined pier
-computer keybard
-chequebook & pen
-placards with slogans --- defo H Block and Ireland on placards so 80s protest march maybe?
-posh front door
-2 silhouette profiles
-2 hands, one possibly bound
-hand under a pub table passing something to another hand --- looked a bit too big to be a wrap but could be
-church spire
-gas towers
-shadow on floorboards of someone holding scissors
-sink with clothes being washed --- bloodied clothes?
-striped sleeve (pyjama?) in water --- look like pyjamas
-credit card on a table with cocaine(?) --- coke and card
-trees --- couldn't see the rope because of glare
-girl's bedroom with posters of 80s popstars (Madonna, Nik Kershaw & Kajagoogoo...!) --- and a Sesame St toy!
-tent interior
-picnic --- now that was interesting. The body in case was found on the River Lea. NW commented it was a popular picnic spot. But then the Cotswolds must have many picnic/camping locations?
-buoy & boat in water -- couldn't work out what that shot was of
-wine glasses
-fashionable terrace/club(?) exterior
-tall modern building lit up at night
-wardrobe of old-fashioned women's clothes (possibly with a suitcase) --- defo suitcase in wardrobe and looked the same style as the one found containing body
-exterior of tent

Looking forward to seeing how all these turn up in the story ”

I love a challenge especially a sleuth one! My take on your points from opening titles above.

She's been in hiding after killing that guy in the suitcase.

The nurse said she had been away owtte for ten years. Prison? I'm thinking of the prison protest placards in the opening credits.

Just got round to watching it. Cracking start to the new series !

I love the way the Sanjeev Bhaskar character always always always has a rucksack over his shoulder. Can't explain why, it just feels 'right'

Yep- can't bear the sight of OTT white teeth.

Thank you- I like your picnic/river connection; the R. Lea goes through various interesting parts of NE London, so there's lots of scope there. As for the girl's 80s bedroom, Tessa seems too old for that, so I'm guessing for now it's Elise's while Marion was AWOL?

I like the idea of her being in prison, but The Guardian says the placards are about the H Block protests, which would mean N Ireland, so I can't see Marion being sent there, unless it was for terrorist offences?

Ah - didn't get the H Block reference.

Like 'No Offence" which is written by Paul Abbott of 'Shameless' fame, there's a lot more to it than the usual cop show. Love it!

Oh yes, there may be trouble ahead.

Well known actress in minor role alert!

Spoiler
I noticed that the woman handing Flo over to the barrister and his partner was played by Emma Cunliffe ( The Lakes, etc). I wasn't certain so I watched again and I'm pretty sure it's her. I can't believe she would only appear so briefly, so maybe Flora does end up back at the children's home.

I've just watched the first episode and thought it was great, really good start. I thought the first series was excellent so I have high hopes for this one.

I saw her name in the opening credits and forgot I hadn't noticed her in the episode. Not surprising as when I FFd thru again she was seen only briefly in profile. That's the point I made upthread : in S1 respected actors turned up briefly, almost as extras, but it was clear that an actor of their calibre had to play a bigger part eventually. Intrigued to find out what part she'll play.

Back to the credits, is the front door Tess's house?

No- credits door is dark brown with plants surrounding it; Tess' door is red with no plants.

Yes 20 + years on a lick of red paint and plants removed maybe. I was thinking more of the look of the property. Victorian (?), bay window (possibly double bay?). Anyway just going a bit The Missing and seeing clues where there are none 😀

Quite tedious really. After recently watching something as riveting as The Missing. and then coming down to the level of a humdrum thriller like this, where I really don't care that much about the characters, I found myself yawning through most of it. Not sure I'll bother with the rest.
