I have just put my older Toshiba TV in the second bedroom and went to connect a DVD player to it using a scart lead as both units have scart sockets. When I had connected them I turned the TV on and clicked the source button only to find there was no option to use a scart cable.Cannot understand as why have a scart socket with no means of using it.The two models are.TV Toshiba 19bv500b and DVD player is a LG DR175 which is only used for playing as due to it;s age will no longer record something to do with the digital changeover I believe. There are sockets on the TV for the Red,White and yellow cables which I believe are Audio/Video cables. If I get one what do I look for when I click the source button

It is very simple.

Turn on TV
Turn on DVD
Insert disk into DVD
Press PLAY on DVD

The TV may auto switch to the SCART input and you see the DVD playback on screen. If not simply press the SOURCE button on the TV and try each option in turn until you see the DVD playback. Then remember which option you had to select for next time.

NB you may find a couple of options for SCART playback, if one of them is "RGB" then use that one for the best image quality.

Some TVs have the option to enable and disable the AV inputs one-by-one. This sounds a bit odd but it can be a benefit when either someone only needs say the aerial and a HDMI input. It makes the input choice easier.

Now, without finding and reading the manual for your particular TV then I can't say with 100% certainty that your TV has this, but it's worth looking in to the set-up menus just to check. If you do find this option then simply re-enable the SCART input.

While you're messing with the set-up menus it's worth mentioning that SCART works at two quality levels. The highest quality is RGB. Check on the DVD player set-up menus that SCART is outputting at RGB. I hope this helps. If it is anything other than the suggestions you've read so far in this thread then do please come back and say how you fixed it. We know a lot here but can always learn new tricks

You have found the SCART on Ext-1 as per your previous post. Therefore it has to be enabled otherwise it would not have been found. Which of course means there is no point even trying to search for the option as it does not apply.

In any case if there is a method to disable and enable inputs on the TV then the procedure for doing so will be explained in the manual so it is just a matter of following whatever instructions are written there. But as I say it is unnecessary as the input must be enabled anyway.
