Sky Box Planner Backup Problem
I'm trying to back up some old shows onto my PC from the Sky box. It's not movies or anything I'm planning to upload online, mostly it's just panel shows that I want to keep for my own use (and aren't commercially available) but my box is totally full up. So I opened up my box and plugged a USB sata cable into it then that went straight into my Pc's USB. I didn't use a hard drive docking station as the hard drive on my box model drx895 is quite buried and I don't wish to completely dismantle the thing. Anyway my PC recognized it as a USB storage drive and the program I attempted to use (ExPVR) couldn't see it as a hard drive. I half wondered if it was a USB 2 problem as my computer is getting on a bit. I usually connect a USB3 hub to it but I don't know if that makes the connection USB 3 or not. I did however try it out on a mac with USB 3 which failed to even recognise something was plugged in. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really am stuck. Thanks.

It might be because the computer is seeing it as a removable drive, because it's connected via USB, and maybe ExPVR doesn't work with removable drives?
In any case, you'll be much better off with a direct SATA connection to the computer's motherboard, if that's possible, as that will be far faster than a USB connection.

I've successfully used a USB3-Sata adapter with the drive from my DRX895

Removed drive from the DRX890, plugged it into the caddy, then connected the caddy to the laptop.

I really don't feel experienced enough to start taking the Sky box apart to that extent. Some people say a simple sata-usb cable should work, and the computer does recognize it with that connection but only as a 'usb device'. |
