EE: Was the "Paul's Mum" storyline supposed to lead somewhere?

It just seemed a bit weird that Paul Coker's long-lost mother showed up for a couple of episodes and then disappeared immediately before he was murdered. I kept expecting her to show up at the funeral and scream at the Cokers, but nothing happened and they have since left the show.

Was there some problem with the actress that meant a storyline was dropped? Or is the character due to return and form a connection with Ben Mitchell?

It was all bloody odd to set up a storyline like that and then do nothing with it.

Couldn't agree more. She was absolutley pointless.

Maybe she was just there as a "red herring", to make it look as if Paul had future storylines? If that was the idea, it kind of worked, as Paul's murder was unexpected. But even so, it's bizarre that she wasn't involved in the aftermath.

She was probably traumatised by the state of his hair and did one.

Yeah it was very odd, they shouldn't have bothered bringing her in tbh.

I think it was to ramp up the tragedy. He comes so close to being reunited with his mum, then it's snatched away etc. A bit misjudged really.

I believe it was around transition time between DTC and The Sock - I'm guessing that Sock had different plans for Paul's exit to DTC's

It was planned just a couple weeks before his exit was planned. Everything got shook up behind the scenes, new producers, writers etc.

It was only Paul, if I'd found out he was my son I'd probably bugger off as well.

Thanks.

a random appearance doesn't have to mean anything. Although I agree with the poster who mentioned, it was to heighten the tragedy.

Where was she at the trial ? The whole thing was very bizarre.
