FFS - why do they keep cutting away just as they are about to break the news?

No, we didn't see them. You obviously don't understand what I mean which is why you are disagreeing. I am talking about seeing their initial reactions at the very time of being told "Ronnie and Roxy are dead".... not seeing them minutes later after the news has sunk in. Completely missed out opportunities for great acting and classic dialogue/scenes.

To be fair, Phil and Jack are the closest to Ronnie and Roxy (not counting the children) Sharon and Max would be quite shaken too but they knew Ronnie and Roxy through Phil and Jack. Stacey/Martin/Michelle are all quite distant so while they would be sad they wouldn't be devastated. Louise and Ben were obviously devastated as hinted at when Ben broke down in Kathy's arms and Louise wept in the shop.

Of those, we only saw seconds of Phil, and then the tail end of Dot and Abi being told. None of the others were told on-screen. The O.P. doesn't mean 'we didn't see people sat around feeling sad', but the actual inital reaction to being told (the best, most emotional bit) was almost completely lacking from anyone other than Jack and Max.

Phil was the one I was most looking forward to, after all his dilemas with mortality recently, but just as it was hitting him, we cut away NOT the way to write drama.

But we didn't. Apart from Phil we didn't even see them being told what happened - just their delayed reaction some time afterwards.

It might have been good to have some longer scenes and more emphasis on it yes.

They probably didn't want to repeat the news over and over but the scenes could have been longer I agree.

They should have done what they usually do on such occasions. Someone walks into the Vic and announces it to everyone.

But they repeated the build-up over and over (someone walking in, about to break the news) which is even more boring, surely?

Lol of course the cast knew what ending was going to be used,do u really think they only chose the ending last night? The fact that it was leaked months ago, and the fact that the alternative endings were just a few clips prove this.

Probably cause they felt some of the actors like Jack werent strong enough to act it out completely

I watched it with my Mum and she burst out laughing at Stacey's sad face. Lacey's normally a great actress, but that particular bit of acting was dreadful.

It was more a "oh, what a bummer" face

We were right to see Phil and Jack being told as they were closest to them. It would add nothing seeing how the Fowlers or Beales reacted.

We should have seen Jack, Phil and Glenda being told.

Given Phil's condition, I would not have minded just Jack and Glenda being the focus. Jack didn't go looking after Ronnie after she didn't turn up after 20 minutes and Glenda had been a bad mother to them. So many missed opportunities for proper drama with those two.

I found it really annoying too. EastEnders does this quite a lot. Fair enough that we got to see the instant reaction of Jack and Phil since they were closest to them, but I think it would've been better if we'd seen the reaction of the rest of the Mitchell clan. Others like Stacey, Dot and Kathy could've been saved until the next episode.

It could be a decent technique, but overusing it ruins the impact. We may as well not even have seen Ben, Kathy and Max discussing the deaths with others. Could've saved time by seeing everyone on the square heartbroken and depressed. (With Max, Jack and Phil seen being given the news fully.)

Why did the police want to check the hotel CCTV in order to work out what happened? Why don't they just watch yesterday's episode on the BBC i-player?

Totally agree, especially for close family i would have liked to have seem the bodies be found

This is the most likely reason. The soaps are such conveyor belts these days that the actors don't have enough time to invest in a performance of any value.

they prob don't trust the acting capabilities of most the cast, they had to show jack but it's a bit telling the only other one we really saw came from their strongest actor in Steve mcfadden

Sharon's reaction was far too calm for me when she was initially told.”

We were still within earshot of her when they were in that close up of Jack in the car, we should have at least heard a muffled gasp or a "no"

At the rate they were going with ancillary characters to this situation I'm surprised we didn't see Stacey call Alfie with "bad news"

I'd like Danny Mitchell thrown in there as well.

What's it got to be like to be the third wheel sibling to that duo? That should be explored.
