2016 was so depressing.... that I've started watching Eastenders again; to cheer myself up.

I stopped watching around then ...........maybe a few years alter

Trying to remember what was happening when I gave up. I think Arthur Fowler was going mad, Nick Cotton had come back for a spell, maybe Gillian Taylforth had been raped ?

early 1990s maybe

I'm hoping that 2017 will at least be a little bit more lighthearted than 2016.

that could be about five different time periods

I stopped watching when Phil was still young enough to be a convincing hard nut, probably about 1967

Sounds like a Marvel DC crossover with Hawkeye and Green Arrow.

For the early part of the year it was more like Jessica Jones, tbh...

I caught an episode a few months back on the home from the dentist, and it was mainly about selling eggs.

I called the Samaritans when i got home

There was a lot of spousal abuse, coercive control and stabbing in self-defence too. A bit out there for the Archers, but compelling and terrifying.

i didn't get any of that, i got half an hour of high anxiety about a sign on the gate about eggs for sale. I will admit it was compelling though.

LOL Apparently at new year in 1916/1917 Tsar Nicolas remarked on what a dreadful year 1916 had been and how 1917 was bound to be better. I think the moral of the story is be careful what you wish for.

For one of their legendary omlette recipes presumably. To be fair to the Archers it is billed as the everyday story of farming folk so selling eggs kinda goes with the territory.

they don't just 'chuck' away an egg selling storyline ..........they'll spread it out for a few weeks

it'll be a 'will they, won't they' cliffhanger............

Even at its dullest The Archers is strangely addictive.

Ah, you gotta love DS. I've never heard the Archers. I might have to check it out. I've been mourning Ronnie and Roxie Mitchell's deaths and listening to some Leonard Cohen - but I've still not cheered up.

Hmm I think you might have the wrong prescription for cheerfulnes Patsy. . Try a glass of port and a slice of Christmas cake and watching re-runs of Porridge on Yesterday.

crikey ............it's been going for ever

In the mid 1950s the BBC did a spoiler on ITVs opening night by heavily trailing a massive event was going to happen in that evening's Archers episode

was it the death of Grace Archer in a fire ..........I think

I used to listen to intermittently in the 70s when I was a student, it was a bit of a kitsch thing to do amongst layabouts............

Listening to Leonard Cohen would make anyone depressed
2016 was a depressing year with weird election results, Brexit and Trump for example
