Ah, you gotta love DS. I've never heard the Archers. I might have to check it out. I've been mourning Ronnie and Roxie Mitchell's deaths and listening to some Leonard Cohen - but I've still not cheered up.
Perhaps you should try a bit of D:Ream instead.

PHP Code:
ko ko ka choo
I don't think that that's valid PHP to be honest.

Really? I had you pegged as something of an expert in server-side scripting.

Well I am flattered, or I think I might be if I knew what that meant either.

For one of their legendary omlette recipes presumably. To be fair to the Archers it is billed as the everyday story of farming folk so selling eggs kinda goes with the territory.
Oh indeed, I was just saying to Stoatie there were was no domestic violence or stabbing in the episode i caught just the sign for the eggs for sale.....

they don't just 'chuck' away an egg selling storyline ..........they'll spread it out for a few weeks

it'll be a 'will they, won't they' cliffhanger............
exactly this then i got home and couldn't receive radio 4 so i've been on tenterhooks for weeks....

put it in a spoiler if you must but did they sell the eggs in the end ?
yes yes!!! tell us An!!!

Even at its dullest The Archers is strangely addictive.
Oh yes i loved it!

This Archers thing sounds like old Emmerdale - pre-CGI carnage.

You mean when it was a simple tale of country folk? Yes it is and long may it remain so. Bring on the story lines about jam label mix-up scandals at the village food and produce shows and raising money for a new tea urn for the village hall. Leave plane crashes, trains falling off viaducts, murders and suicides to the TV soaps. Archer listeners like a show that putters on fueled by ..well.. nothing of consequence.

2017 is going to be way worse. We've already started off with a mass shooting in Turkey. Lots more celebs are of the age to die and the elections on the Euro mainland will be insane.

The attacks in Paris in 2015 started on the 7th January. Just because something occurs within the first few days of the Gregorian calendar it does not follow that the rest of the year will be worse. You're talking mumbo-jumbo.

Nice to see a DS poster that includes Turkey in their notion of 'us' though. Solidarity, brother!

The Turkey attack was at the very start. So it's a pretty dramatic start. And with the celebs thing, lots are old so it's going to happen.

It's going to be a grim year. But maybe not for people personally.

At the start of an arbitrary calendar. If it had happened on any other day of the year it would be equally dramatic, but still wouldn't have any bearing on the proceeding 12 months. You've obviously got your ear pressed firmly against the squeakiest wheel though, so I expect you will find the rest of the year rather grim.

This thread specifically relates to years though. So not really sure what you're doing by going on about how the start of a year doesn't mean anything.

Maybe start your own different thread?

You implied cause and effect; that an attack so early in the year doesn't bode well for the rest of the year. It's as meaningless as saying that an attack on a Monday morning would likely have more of an effect than if it had happened on a Wednesday.

Mumbo-jumbo.

Mum always made me smile, even to the end. Even in hospital very ill she was bemoaning not being able to hear The Archers whilst she was there
