Like if (as i suspect) it all goes tits up for SOC, BBC give him the boot. Realise they have no big characters to bring back to claw in viewers.
Would they be able to bring back R&R in a Dallas type scene? Like perhaps Phil had a horrid dream in the hospital and thats what we were seeing when R&R died.
It would be a ratings puller i am sure.

There would be uproar if they did

Dallas was able to pull off the "Bobby's in the Shower" thing because it had series that wrapped most of the stories for all the characters up at the finale, so it was easy to reset to before Bobby "died" and say all those things didn't happen as the viewers had also had some time to forget the details.

EE doesn't work like that so after a certain point, it would be to complicated to reset the entire square - for example a hard reset like Dallas's would require undoing and bringing back any other leavers (for example Lee Carter as we know he's going) or otherwise explaining how they disappeared suddenly, without trace on New Year's Day. Not to mention putting everyone else back to where they are now, and getting rid of any new characters.

If on Friday, Jack was to wake up in the hotel to be told by Max that Ronnie and Roxy had run off together with all the money from the house sale and Amy and Matthew. That might just be believable but any longer would just be stretching it.

This is a genuine question, what does 'jumped the shark' mean?

I have always thought its something that could work on a show like Hollyoaks though. I have been willing them to reset it back to before Birkwood started producing the show again.

I'd go back to before Lucy was killed and also erase the majority of dtcs tenure. It would also solve the dead Kathy problem

It's the point where a show noticeably goes downhill in quality after a change in an attempt to stay fresh. Usually there is some big stunt that makes it clear that the writers have run out of good/new ideas.

The name comes from when The Fonz (Eehhhhhey!) on Happy Days literally jumped over a shark while water-skiing.

TV Tropes explains it better (I take no responsibility if you click the link and then find you've been reading TV Tropes for two hours or something):

This is what I wanted for Brendan in Hollyoaks, his rubbish exit to be a bad dream but I'd accept it for Ronnie and Roxy

Julia Smith would turn in her grave,.

Not that many moments from the last 15 years or so probably haven't made her do so already.

I'd go back a lot further than that. Somewhere in the early 2000s. That way Kathy would never have "died" in the first place and the likes of Den and Angie and Pat would still be alive

They did with Kathy didn't they? They killed her off in 2006 and bought her back in 2015!

Well she was killed 'off-screen' so could be brought back.
We saw Ronnie and Roxy die before our very eyes!

They still could be bought back and claim they faked their deaths because someone from Ibiza was after them!

As long as it involves lengthy and graphic scenes of Whitney in the shower, then you have my support.

lol with another 2 women drowning in their place, we actually saw Ronnie's face in the pool in the instance of a fake their would be no need to enter the pool in the first place.
jack would have to identify them does that mean he would be in on it when their both mothers

the door is firmly shut and there is no way back now for either of them ever again

One thing I can't get my head around about that was how did it impact Knots Landing? Was the whole of Knots Landing a dream after he gets out of the shower? And then when Val and Gary came back for the reboot where they coming from Knots Landing or somewhere else?

So confused.....

the producers of knots landing were just as confused. They weren't consulted about it, so they had Gary mourn Bobby dying and everything. The whole thing was a mess from which Dallas never recovered, and they didn't tie it up properly anyway as prior to Bobby "dying" he was being stalked by a mystery woman. This was never resolved when Pam woke up from her dream.

In retrospect what they should have done is make the season where Bobby died, Bobby's coma dream and have JR, Pam, Gary etc talking to him/each other at his bedside so he was subconsciously aware of the ongoing events in both series. That way when he woke up they could have kept most of the storylines from the season he wasn't in. I know, I've put waaay to much thought into this.

It's EE - it can pull anything off. Would it be a risk worth taking? Nah

Please don't I beg.

Yes Bobby's death was mentioned in Knots Landing, Gary and Val even named of their twins Bobby after Gary's deceased brother. Yet Dallas later got "reset" so that Bobby never died but Knots Landing never did. So Knots Landing existed in a different universe where Bobby was dead but over in Dallas he was still alive.
