When is he first arrived he was just an ordinary bloke who only cared about money

Now he has been turned into some kind of Pantomime villain who everyone is scared who can control people to do what he wants if he has enough dirt on them. And is unrecognisable to the bloke who first arrived on the street

Pantomime villain!? Our King was nearly killed twice by the same person. He's just getting his justice and a new tow truck. If you survived two near death experiences it would change you too.

Hail to the King.

Pantomime villain?

He is doing the same to Andy as he did to Gary and family.

But now he doing things the old Phelan would not do like threatening Andys girlfriend if he does not do what he wants. I can understand the blackmail and all that. But now he is using violence to get money

How many times did he threaten Anna.

He made the poor woman have sex with him by using threats!

He's the same now as he has always been.

They seem to be recycling things again. Obviously don't know what to do with the character.

Kate Oates is awful, her idea of a good storyline is an affair or secret relationship (see her seemingly making the whole show about Eva/Aiden/Maria).

I can't stand the man and he ruins the programme for me. I don't want him to die though as that may mean that all of his dastardly deeds don't get found out and Eileen will be going around mourning his death and proclaiming what a good man he was. I want him found out, outed to everyone, with evidence and then he can be carted off by the police. If he dies, it's too simple and then there will be someone else who has to go off to prison instead.

This is true. Everything is so miserable. Where has all the comedy gone that makes Corrie Corrie? I'm not enjoying it at all at the moment. Thanks goodness at least Mary didn't leave, but even her character is not what it was.

I really don't get the hero worship [ tongue in cheek though it may be ] of this despicable character? The sooner he leaves the cobbles the better, and preferably in the back of a police van. I agree with Donna65 - no quick death for this excuse for humanity. he needs to be outed completely, every one of his evil deeds known and discussed. I have absolutely no sympathy for Eileen either - looking forward to her 'comeuppance'!

Not just like Phelan who makes innocent people suffer. Not people - just Phelan. We want to see the evil scumbag get done to him what he does to others. He deserves to suffer.

If there was an afterlife, he would go straight down to hell.

Andy deserves it as he tried to kill Phelan and I'm loving seeing him squirm now and at his beck and call .

I love the character and hope he stays for a lot longer yet. Kevin's a bit too gobby and handy with his fists so deserves to have his tow-truck nicked.

The people Phelan has made suffer deserve it too, so no difference at all.

In the next episode, Kevin and Phelan will have a showdown on the cobbles at High Noon. Kevin will shoot first, and think he's killed Phelan, but when he goes to examine the corpse, a-ha! Phelan will reveal that he had the breastplate from an old fashioned stove hanging round his neck, and that deflected the bullet!

I think the OP has got a point. Phelan started off as nothing more than a chavvy conman who refused to pay Owen for some work he'd done. But the more the absurd social media frenzy goes on, the more he gets turned into some sort of supervillain, which is absurd on several levels given that his ambitions are nevertheless absurdly small-time. (Ooh, nasty Phelan's stealing a pick-up truck! Wow.) Frankly, I don't care if he goes to prison or goes to hell, although if he does die I hope it isn't too quick, he needs to know that he's lost. There's no lesson to be learned from him going to prison: Unlike other villains, Phelan doesn't even pretend that he's got a higher calling that excuses his actions, his attitude is just "I'm bad and I love it", he's only bothered about the money and about screwing with people for kicks.

And that's what make him great if your going to treat people bad you may as well enjoy it otherwise what's the point.
