If it had happened on the M25, half of south-east England would have ground to a halt, which would have been newsworthy in itself.
Kent into Essex through Dartford often grinds to a permanent halt Day, night, weekends.... |

Have they commented on the firearm found in the car?
http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-...d-gun-12401135 A non-police issue firearm was found in the car in which Yaqub was travelling The Independent Police Complaints Commission has revealed that a gun was found in Mohammed Yassar Yaqub's car on Monday night http://www.ipcc.gov.uk/news/update-f...g-huddersfield Jan 3, 2017 The Independent Police Complaints Commission’s (IPCC) investigation into a fatal police shooting in Huddersfield is continuing today (Tuesday). After being notified by West Yorkshire Police, IPCC investigators went to the scene yesterday evening and attended police post incident procedures, and have been overseeing forensic examinations. Yassar Yaqub, aged 28 from Crosland Moor, was shot by a West Yorkshire Police firearms officer during a planned police operation at Junction 24 of the M62 motorway shortly after 6pm on Monday 2 January. He died at the scene. What appears to be a non-police issue firearm was discovered in the vehicle in which Mr Yaqub was travelling, and is being further examined. Mr Yaqub’s family has been informed and will be kept updated by an IPCC family liaison manager. A post mortem is due to take place tomorrow (4 January). HM Coroner has been informed. IPCC investigators are continuing to seek any relevant CCTV footage. Initial accounts from police officers involved have been obtained. IPCC Commissioner Derrick Campbell: “My thoughts are with Mr Yaqub’s family and all those affected at this difficult time. Though in its early stages, this investigation is making good progress but will be complex. We will be working hard to establish exactly what happened and would ask for patience while our investigation continues.” We understand Mr Yaqub’s family has requested their privacy is respected at this time I would say the family wanting privacy is also making this a much calmer affair. |

Rather bizarrely, some people have been protesting on a road in Bradford tonight despite the incident taking place just off the M62 at Huddersfield.....can't work that one out myself. Not sure what they hope to achieve though, just makes them look like numpties who are blocking roads.

Not much said they will wait to get results from tests before saying much more, I think with past cases both police, IPCC and the media (well some of it) may have learned some valuable lessons in doing things right, not releasing info to placate the press and public until you have info rather than speculation and the media hopefully will report facts and not blanket coverage crap which can lead to unrest.

It could well be that an embargo has been placed on reporting for the present.

Incident occurred. Police black out. Non Terrorist event! Someone shot by Police. They have the answers, OP does not! London Bias? In West Yorkshire? I despair of DS posters at times!

An embargo on reporting? This isn't a police state. Whatever happened to journalistic curiosity and determination to get to the truth of a story?

Hence my comment about that the BBC would have dragged the commissioner of the Met in to the studio asking why the motorway was still shut 18 hours after the incident.

Which speaks volumes about the IPCC. Why should their thoughts be with the family? They are meant to be independent, not to be expressing sympathy for the family of an alleged criminal.
