EastEnders shot up to 7.7 million last night. Only one episode rated higher in 2016. (Mick and Linda's wedding part 2).

EastEnders - 7.66 million (32.4%).
Corrie - 7.39 million (32%) & 6.9 million (29%).

Much better!

Thats the rating i expected new years day, but i suppose its for the aftermath of Ronnie and Roxy. These are 2 hugely known and popular characters who have generated alot of publicity.
I am not sure why this is a good thing lol. They are dead now. The ratings will dip back to usual again.

Just shows you that viewing figures are nothing to do with the quality of an episode. Last night was dissappoiting to say the least.

I don't think it was obvious that it was going to increase by nearly two million and be up on last years equivalent episode despite being so much lower on New Year's Day

True because people do not know what the episode is going to be like till they have seen it!
Anyway the ratings were up because of all the attention on social media and in the press about the Mitchell sisters death. If anything surely this is a bad thing if the sisters have brought in viewers, as they are dead now!

How unfortunate, that after weeks and weeks of near consistently good quality episodes, with moments of greatness sprinkled here and there, the ratings surge for 'the dud' episode.

Last nights episode was unfocused and lacked any subatance, with poor writing technique employed throughout.

The episode consisted of a rinse and repeat of...
- 'Max pulls cocaine out of pocket and looks torn'
- "something terrible has happened"-CUT.

The only reason the ratings surged is because of Jo Masters being featured in it the other night

no I think the reason why the ratings went up is because everyone heard of the dark creepy scenes that happend when ronnie and roxy died becuase I know after the episode my facebook was filled with papers talking about how R+R died

How would you know?

I thought you stopped watching? I thought R&R's death was categorally the last time you would watch while SOC was EP?

Why did Corrie get a surge? Nothing happened on there. It isn't that big a gap considering

But Good for EE. I guess casual viewers were curious after they heard what had happened with 2 big characters. The aftermath hasn't been great though so probably not enough to keep them hooked

Good, I'm sure we can all live without yet another hysterical, unsubstantiated, black and white 'SOC is ruining EE and the BBC are sure to fire him within months' hissy fit.

Another disappointing episode tonight, in terms of missing potential. Mick's off-screen beating of Oz was a very poor, unsatisfying move, as was having the episode build up to Donna finding out about the death of her best friend, only to then skip her actually finding out. Words need to be had with the writer over these episodes (the two were written by the same guy), because his writing of drama literally leaves a lot to be desired.
