Clive Cussler never bothered when they found it would take more than a bit of waterproof bodyfiller to patch the holes and bring her up.

Well damn! That means James Cameron will have to do a remake of Titanic now!!!
Could they not just edit the scene so it shows the Titanic shooting first?

Remember the 1980 film of the same name;…it didn’t do well;

...the film only grossed about $7 million against an estimated cost of $40 million.

Lew Grade, who financed the movie, lamented…. "Raise the Titanic!...it would have been cheaper to lower the Atlantic".,

Captain Smith did receive (and act upon) iceberg warnings earlier in the day but later and more urgent warnings went unheeded,…the reasons why are unclear.
That point has been made very clear: The Marconi radio operators made money from sending Telegrams. They made most of their money from it. They were using the radio to do just that and at one point someone was trying to send ice warnings and one of the Marconi radio operators on the Titanic told him to get off the air as it was interrupting their lucrative Telegram sending. After sending their telegrams, I believe they turned off the radio for the evening. Only turning it back on after disaster struck and they sent the relatively new distress call of SOS.

No, because they've already edited the scene to replace the guns with walkie-talkies.

And they changed the name of the black dog on the iceberg to Digger!
