Clive Cussler never bothered when they found it would take more than a bit of waterproof bodyfiller to patch the holes and bring her up.

![]() ...the film only grossed about $7 million against an estimated cost of $40 million. Lew Grade, who financed the movie, lamented…. "Raise the Titanic!...it would have been cheaper to lower the Atlantic".,

Could they not just edit the scene so it shows the Titanic shooting first?
Brilliant.

Captain Smith did receive (and act upon) iceberg warnings earlier in the day but later and more urgent warnings went unheeded,…the reasons why are unclear. ![]() |

No, because they've already edited the scene to replace the guns with walkie-talkies.

A couple of points. Titanic did not "weigh" 46,000 tons. Gross Tonnage was (and is) a measure of volume. This why today's biggest cruise ships have massive gross tonnages, due to their enormous superstructures. The actual hull dimensions are not that great (compared to ships like the original Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth).
You are falling in to the trap of believing the hype, Titanic was not the most prestigious ship ever built, she was the second of a class of three and was in no meaningful way bigger or more luxurious than the Olympic which had entered service the previous year. On her maiden voyage she was only half full (providentially as it turned out). |
