Interestingly, BBC1 Midlands didn't opt out as normal at 13:30 to show the regional news, instead opting to show the BBC News Channel, don't know if this only happened in the Midlands or it was nationwide.

They showed the Midlands news for the first 5 minutes then they opted to show the BBC News Channel for the breaking news about the UK's top EU diplomat Ivan Rogers resigning.

The News Channel is carried as the sustaining service on BBC 1 'Network' so that's what gets seen should a region fail to opt etc. The only exception is during BBC Breakfast, where London News is shown instead (because of course the News Channel is simulcasting Breakfast anyway).

No they didn't opt to do that, according to a BBC Midlands tweet, there was a fire alarm, so opt back to network and leg it.
