Ah sorry, didn't realise you were in Oz. Didn't you have a vote recently?
Yeah, I had to do a postal vote from the UK.

I think the conclusion was a slim majority for the guy who's less of a **** than his deposed predecessor, even if he's pretending to be as big a **** to appease the predecessor's faction in Government. There was an opposition, but the guy leading it was neither a **** nor someone with a backbone, so it was a choice between a pretend-**** and someone who you had to remind yourself existed.

So we've got someone who's a bit less of a **** than the clueless **** before, pretending to be a huge ****, although we're now wondering if he actually is just as big a ****, or just as spineless as the guy in opposition, leading to some difficult questions regarding whether it's better to have a real ****, a spineless ****, or a spineless non-**** as your leader, although most would agree any option is better than the clueless **** before.

Politics in a nutshell(!).

EDIT: I should point out the **** began with a T, not a C.

Charles will possibly change his name when he becomes king. He has a choice - he could choose Charles, Philip, Arthur or George. If he chooses Charles he would be Charles III and the first two didn't exactly have a successful time as monarchs. Charles I was beheaded and Charles II had a troublesome time as monarch.
I thought he could choose any name at all.

Elizabeth III will do as tribute to her

Does Harry then become the Duke of York?
Certainly not !!!!!
The changes don't need to happen all at once.

When Charles becomes king, will the title Prince of Wales become vacant?
No. Billy would get a promotion.

I understand he has chosen George.

I would have loved him to choose Arthur

The Prince of Wales title is conferred on the heir apparent. (unless the heir is female apparently i.e. The Queen was not made Prince or Princess of Wales).

So William gets it next along with the Duchy of Cornwall and that posh biscuit business presumably.

I'm sure I've read that he wants to be George VII. As you say Charles has some unfortunate history, Arthur is too much like the legendry one and Philip would seem a bit disrespectful to his dad (and, historically, is more associated with Spanish than British royalty).

If I recall correctly, it was largely expected that Elizabeth II was expected not to be crowned Elizabeth, due to Elizabeth I (or simply Elizabeth as she was then known) being such a pivotal icon of British Royalty.

Although technically, she's only Elizabeth II in England and Wales, and not in Scotland, where she is the first Queen to be named Elizabeth.

At least, that's what I recall.

We have known him as Charles for so long now no matter what he calls himself the public will still think of and call him Charlie

I'm sure that the monarch takes the highest number out of England or Scotland. Hence if we ever get anther James he will be James VIII, not James III. Or at least that's what they said on QI

Not sure about that James VI of Scotland was called James I of England. I think.

One word will change in the anthem , coins will be phased in as and when new ones are printed the same with notes. Other items will happen as they are needed and when practical they will not rush to do them overnight.
If you're old enough to remember pre-decimal currency it wasn't unusual to have a load of Monarchs on the back of your coins. I like to think even Victoria could be occasionally be found

Does the money have to change? couldn't the Queen stay on it if Charles chose that?
New ones would have the new monarch on, but old ones would continue in circulation and only be withdrawn when worn out.

Before we went decimal in 1971, there were pennies still in circulation with Queen Victoria on them.

Indeed and a bun penny, i.e. A youthful Victoria with her hair in a bun was a great find.

The title will go to William.
Does it go immediately though? I seem to remember there was an Investiture for Charles to become Prince of Wales in 1969, sometime after the Queen had been crowned

There's a whole thesis subject there for some political science student. Beautifully put, and really made me laugh!

Also, his grandson became James VII of Scotland and James II of England. However, that was when England and Scotland were two separate nations, who just happened to share the same monarch. Both nations subsequently joined together as the United Kingdom, at which time the "highest number rule" as mentioned on QI came into being.

I was just wondering about that.

Maybe Charles had to have it conferred upon him as it wasn't automatically inherited from his father. The previous PoW was his uncle.

Even if it is automatic though, I imagine he would still have to have an investiture.

Charles will immediately be King but he will still have to have a coronation.

That would explain it; thanks.

That title belong to Prince Andrew, which he received when he got married.

Harry will probably receive a dukedom when he ties the knot (or possibly an earldom like Prince Edward?), but it will be a different title.

I have a hazy recollection that it was because his mum didn't want him to swear the oath and all that until he was an adult.

I suppose there would have to be an investiture, so William can get all the hardware that goes with the title.

The Prince of Wales thing is an 'hereditary' side show. The Duchy of Cornwall which William also gets as part of the job is where the money is. That does get passed on automatically from the previous job holder.

Edit hereditary in '' because none of this is hereditary in the usual sense. These titles and estates go with the job they are not things that the title owners hold as individuals and can be left in wills etc. They are State properties. Like Chequers.

Certainly not !!!!!
Why do you say it like that? I thought the title was traditionally reserved for the second son of the British Monarch, which would be Harry?

Does Andrew have to die first to vacate it?

It would to to Andrew's son if he had one. Harry will have another Dukedom when he marries.
