He's definitely not a brexiteer so that's good news.

Farage will be raging tonight.

The speed of his appointment suggests that Ivan Rogers was sacked

A long time.

Sir Tim, who is close to Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, has also served as the British representative to various other EU bodies and he said to know 'everyone and everything' in Brussels.

After his appointment was confirmed tonight, Sir Tim said: 'I am honoured to be appointed as the UK's Permanent Representative to the EU at this crucial time.

'I look forward to joining the strong leadership team at the Department for Exiting the EU and working with them and the talented staff at UKRep to ensure we get the right outcome for the United Kingdom as we leave the EU.'

He reported that the EU were not happy with us.

I wouldn't expect them to be happy with us no longer subsidising them.

Another expert out of the way.
Gove will be delighted. I expect he'll nominate his milkman as replacement.
Calm down.

Farage is already fuming over the appointment I see haha. Looks like we've gone with the right choice if it makes Farage unhappy.

Farage on twitter:
'Good to see that the government have replaced a knighted career diplomat with.... a knighted career diplomat.'

Damn, this thesaurus must be out of date, I don't see 'fuming' in the list under 'sarcastic git'.

Sounds like the one plan Brexit have - if our man in Brussels resigns/gets the sack/goes with the wrong woman/man we send in our substitute who's already been warming up.

Really looks like Brexit is gonna be too big to handle, I'm just wondering when Her Theresaness jacks it in. Will we see a hardline Brexiter (or Boris) ever in charge? No way, THEY don't want the responsibility of making then clearing up the damage, just look at how quickly they disappeared in June.

When you look at Brexit fiasco after Brexit fiasco, you can see why David Cameron did a runner the morning of June 24th last summer.

I've felt all along that Brexit will be a dirty word in five or ten years' time and nothing that has happened this week has changed my mind. I predict the whole 'Brexit experiment' will go down as a disastrous episode in British history, as it will be impossible to make a success of it.

Has the actual leader of UKIP (whatever his name is) said anything about this Abassadorgate? Come to think of it, I think of it I haven't heard anything from Corbyn either. It's as if the Labour party have just given up and gone home.

His name is Eddie Hitler. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B6xY303CcAE0YlI.jpg

I don't think we've heard anything from him since his "election". He's lasted longer than his predecessor at least

The problem for any successor(s) is that every time the media want a comment from a UKIP person they will have Farage on speed dial. Being the shrinking violet that he isn't, he's hardly likely to tell tell to call the UKIP press office for a quote.

He'll be asking for the unrecognised cleaner instead of the knighted career surgeon next time he needs an operation then.

Progress has been made. A competent EU Ambassador who is also a skilled negotiator is in place.

Next interesting events will be the Copeland by election and then the triggering of Article 50.

Am I the only one in thinking that this was part of the plan all along with the aim of deceiving the EU side?

Has it passed you by that Cameron himself was the cause of the problem in the first place?

Which if you're right means we had in effect already lost our ability as a people to make the sovereign decision to leave the EU. Our worst fears as Brexiters would have in some ironic sense have been confirmed. We will I guess all have to like or lump our status as a semi-autonomous region of the EU.
