I'm not presently out of work; I have a full time job, five days (38hrs) a week, though I've been here for a good nine/ten years now, and one of my resolutions is to get a grip on my career.

I don't live in a big city, more the vicinity of several small towns within Gloucestershire. I'm 29, nearly 30. Left College with some minor computing qualifications, was in part-time retail earning those qualifications. Left College, couldn't get a job locally (before I drove), so went into factory work where I now reside.

I don't want more factory work, I don't want care work (cause respectfully, wiping and dressing the elderly and disabled just doesn't appeal to me), and I don't want any retail or sales work. Where else could I look into? Ideally something that'll push me (to better myself, not over the edge), something that is diverse and social, and something that I'll find accomplishing - if that makes sense.

I have the generic GCSE qualifications (whatever they're worth these days), I can speak, spell, problem-solve and do basic math (can't we all?). I went to one of these career advisors back two (I think) years ago, and they just weren't interested, so wouldn't suggest anyone recommending me to one of them!

What sort of jobs remain out there that are willing to train people up on the job? I have a mortgage, so can't really afford to take a drastic pay cut (though I understand that some sort of cut would be likely).
