American comedies. There's some cracking American comedies out there, don't get me wrong, but the majority are just monotonous. Especially the ones that centre around (x) amount of people in their twenties, getting up to some zany antics, blah blah blah. Boring. They're just very generic.
As an example. The Big Bang Theory has a better script than Friends IMO and each episode hasn't been shown a million times (yet). Does anybody want to see back to back episodes of Friends every day?

Yeah, most horror is garbage. I particularly don't like those films like Hostel, which are just sick. Not far off snuff films. I've no idea why anyone would want to watch them.
Because most if not all people should know that these films are not real life and its all done by special effects and makeup. Now, if one tries to re-enact some of these events in real life, then you've got serious psychological and mental issues.

Same applies to other action films, e.g. war films, westerns, gangster films.

Never really been into horror, beside comedies like Shaun of the Dead and also the Koontz adaptation Hideaway, which I mainly watched because it had two of Clueless in it (Silverstone, Sisto). I'm also a rare visitor to the 'war and westerns' section of the remaining HMVs, as I'm more of a comedy and 80s/90s man - so my scene is stuff like Weird Science, Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, American Pie, Superbad, (500) Days of Summer, Austin Powers, and of course Clueless...

Only it's complete style over substance, a show about sci-fi geeks written by people who know very little about sci-fi.

Rom-coms. Never have, never will. I don't like Westerns either. I'm also not keen on musicals but think Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice ones are good. All the old ones like Calamity Jane or Seven Brides, just leave me cold.

Oh and war films.

I'm reading through the posts and keep adding to mine

I guess as long as it keeps the clueless masses happy the writers don't have to care all that much about attention to detail.

Rom-coms and romance with a few notable exceptions.

Casablanca (of course).

Or Somewhere in Time, The Princess Bride and Låt den rätte komma in - which are fantasy or horror anyway.

It's a comedy, not a technical paper or factual documentary. I for one don't care if some of the technical details are not correct. That's not why I'm watching it. If I want to watch factual programmes, there are plenty on the Discovery channels, National Geographic, Animal Planet, Eden etc.

Anyway. I thought sci-fi stood for science fiction not science fact.

Attention to detail in comedy needn't be documentary in nature, some comedies manage to be funny and intelligent. Still, if it's what you're into, great.

Most sci-fi, westerns, fantasies or rom-coms. I just don't see the appeal.

Can't say any genre doesn't interest me. I just love films, will watch anything and wouldn't want to limit myself by dismissing a genre.
I agree. There are good (and bad) films across all genres IMO.

It makes me laugh reading through this thread the number of people who say they can't stand such-and-such a genre, oh except for...

Westerns, Horror, Sci Fi, Gangster, Rom-coms and Musicals all seem high on people's list of genres they don't like.

But that would include films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Shining, Terminator, The Godfather, Some Like it Hot and The Wizard of Oz.

All great films IMO that I'd recommend anyone watching and not dismissing just because you think you don't like the genre.
