I would love it if the brought in Tom Hardy to play Phil Mitchell while he does Panto
He could look like his character from the film The Revenant

Jenna Russell could cover anyone on leave, sickness or refusing to return. She is a talented Broadway actress after all!
Don a blonde wig, wear excrutiating pink gear and imitate Anita Dobson's accent. Job's a good un - Linda |

This is the problem employing women of child baring age in soaps.

Quality idea, Sw. I think this is the best compromise all around. One actress playing anyone who's on leave makes it simple for the audience, and the directors already know how to direct the actress. It makes perfect sense.

I look forward to seeing Jenna's interpretation of Shirley (when she goes on her Greek holiday again) and Kim (curently off screen because of Strictly duty) but that's a spoiler sorry folks for Thursday's double episode.

Off topic slightly, but has Kellie Bright had her baby yet? I didn't hear any news about it and read she was due around winter time. And no to a temporary recast. Though it is unrealistic that Linda wouldn't briefly show up given Ollie's hospital appointment and Lee's situation

Do men get paternity leave on EE? I know in industry its now more and more common but I can't recall a male cast member taking paternity leave.

Why not? People with small children need flexibilty and that's a workable solution.
It doesn't matter who plays the character so long as she's on screen. A blonde haired albino strolls into the Vic "Oh hi Patrick, take a seat" - says Vincent, adjusting her bra. |

Why not rotate all the characters?
A blonde haired albino strolls into the Vic "Oh hi Patrick, take a seat" - says Vincent, adjusting her bra. * Kat chases after Zoe following their argument * Zoe: "YOU AIN'T MY MUVVA!" Balding Chinese man opens the window of his 2nd floor flat on George Street and yells: "YES I AM." |

Sure. Why not? They recast her son shortly after the original actor left. Technically it should be okay to recast Linda very soon. Hopefully they hire a woman of colour to play her this time.

No, no and no.
If their idea of a good recast is how they've done it with Michelle, I dread to think what they'd do to poor Linda. |

She and the other Carters have been so heavily featured in the last 2 years that a bit of a break won't be that bad.

I really think they should do this and made a thread on it myself. It makes no sense for characters not to comeback for funerals and weddings and stuff. Like Michelle in EE, great for those who want to see her back but why is she back now? Why didn't she come back when Pauline died? (Forgive me if I'm wrong as I'm not a huge fan but Pauline was Michelle's mother wasn't she?)

Does anyone know anyone who just disappears from their family's life to look after someone for 6 months or longer. Many actresses taking leave, but it would be more sensible to just refer to them as having gone to the shop or they were upstairs.

Corrie did that with Claire Peacock, the actress went on maternity leave but the character didn't actually leave the street. Claire was supposedly still living there with Ashley and the kids we just didn't see her onscreen for 6 months.
