The writers seem to be ramping up the love between these two.

Can anyone else see an affair developing whilst Linda is away? Maybe a few months down the line?

I thought that too.
Spoiler
Lee is off soon, Mick and Whitney are going to be comforting each other through a lot
....something might happen?

At least it would be entertaining.

Also this has got to be the longest buildup to affair ever. It started in Jan 2016 when Ryan returned

Would certainly go against what DTC thought/intended

It would be very interesting.

Didn't Danny and Kellie not want their characters to have affairs?

It really would be, I can't see Mick justifying a long term affair - so maybe a one off?

It's never gonna happen, Danny would leave before it happened

They can't make those stipulations and there's a new producer in town now.

I'd love to watch Mick's tormented guilty writhings.

Possibly not but they can choose not to renew their contract if they feel strongly about it.

I bet he would, hasn't he already said publicly he would leave if they had Mick and Linda cheat on each other, it's not gonna happen

I think he did say something along those lines, but I can't see him giving up the job he says he loves over it. Particularly (perhaps vitally) if it was done it the right way.

Mick doing a Max Branning wouldn't work, but if it is done in such a way that Mick makes an enormous mistake, and feels a tremendous amount of guilt about it.....that could work.

Yea I suppose, though I really don't see them going down that path personally

They might not, although I hope they do

It wouldn't be interesting at all, it would just be another affair storyline. If they're going to do it, I'd rather Whitney goes Fatal Attraction on Mick (even though that's another tired trope for female characters.)

It wouldn't be 'just another affair' because it involves Mick, who holds monogamy sacred (as does DD, although there were rumours he'd had an affair in his own life a year or so ago).

It would be fascinating to see how he'd deal with the guilt, how it would play out with Linda and what kind of circumstances would lead such an uxorious man into an affair in the first place.

It wouldn't be fascinating to me in the slightest. It would literally just be another affair. Mick would hit the self-destruct button, feel bad about it, try to keep it secret, some contrivance or another would lead to it coming out after Linda returns, they would have an episode where they scream at each other and cry but ultimately they'd stay together and it would be pulled out every time they needed Mick to feel bad about something. (BTW I have no doubt that Danny and Kellie would do a brilliant job with this, they always do, but that still doesn't mean I want to see it.)

Affairs, even affairs with 'family men' are so overdone in soaps and it feels to me that the only reason people want to see it happen is because of the comments Danny Dyer made in an interview about how Mick and Linda wouldn't cheat on each other. I think there is far more potential for Mick to go dark in other ways, if people want him to go dark. Watching him sleep with his son's wife (even if she'll likely be Lee's ex wife by the time it does or doesn't happen) isn't one of them.

This looks like its on the cards but honestly I can't stand the thought unless it means we see the back of Whitney forever, an awful fishwife of a character.

Yep but in EE i don't think EP's give a hoot about that kind of thing. Apparently on Knots Landing both Michele and Kevin Dobson objected to their characters having affairs and said there should be one "affair free" couple on the show and the writers obliged. But really can't see that happening on EE.

No, they've been there and done that whole thing with Mick and Whitney. I don't think either of them would go there again.
They're close but that doesn't mean they're going to get too close. Whitney knows Mick is loyal to Linda and he's more like a father figure to her anyway.
People can have closeness without it turning into something seedy

It would be the worst thing they could do. We don't need more affairs , it would be great to have one couple that can remain faithful. Somewhere down the line maybe Whitney will end up with jack for shock value.

Yous all are reaching like crazy SOC is just actually building up real relationships between family members and friends without sex being the motivation.
