Ailsa.

Met someone called that today and thought what an unusual and slightly weird name it is.

Doesn't trip off the tongue very well

Isn't it a popular Scottish name? Nothing unusual about it.

I think of the woman from the Generation Game

which is odd, because it isn't her name

Nothing unusual or weird about it at all. It's an old Norse name meaning "elf" or "magical victory".

You need to get out more.

I think it's a lovely name. Perhaps she is related to people from Ailsa Craig.

You're thinking of Isla St Clair, who later married Barry White and became Isla White. After that marriage broke down she married Brian Ferry and became known as Isla White-Ferry.

I work with an Ailsa, and she reminds me of an elf.

Ah but Isla St Clair was the hostess when the show was later fronted by Larry Grayson.

Talking of Bryan Ferry, if he were to marry Britney Spears she'd be Britney Ferry. Do they sail to the Isle of White I wonder?

I'm coming over all queer. I'm as limp as a vicar's handshake. Stiffness as well. I get it all down one side. I think I need a bit of ointment. I normally use Fiery Jack but I've lost his number. I'll get my friend Everard to have a look at it later. You get it too don't you sir. I can tell by the way you're sitting. I was in yesterday and I heard him knocking. Pop It In Pete the Postman. The things I've had through my letterbox!

Larry was superb. A true comic genius.

Talking of which, did you know that Britney Spears once ran a fruit stall on Camden Market called Britney's Pears?
