give the guy a break - he has just lost his wife in horrible circumstances - Im not surprised he is having a hard time telling the children what has happened as he is still in shock himself
I am afraid thats not how it works . Jack is the adult and was in the same position as many adults before him . An adult has to put kids first even if its tough . He was given the option of help and turned it down

I got a bit frustrated with him as i felt like Amy wasnt getting the fact they had died. He only said they have gone away and not coming back. Amy first thought he meant they had actually gone away not died. Just because he said they wont ever be coming back still didnt make it clear to her that they weren't coming back becauce they're dead. It ended with her looking confused, not upset and at her age there would definitely be tears.
Yes I agree. Amy might think her mother had left her because she didn't love her.
Obviously Jack's grieving and there's probably an instinctive reaction to want to protect the kids. But Amy's bound to be upset no matter what you say; she needs to know the truth. It might be helpful for her to go to the funeral too.

I quite agree. Terrible scene. So badly handled. The kids need telling properly espceicallly Amy. Obviously Matthew is too young to understand at all.

To spare them the pain, Jack should tell the kids that Ronnie and Roxy went on an advanced swimming course in Ibiza to learn how NOT to drown themselves in a wedding dress.

Jack: "They'll be back in a few years, don't worry, kids."

Eventually when the kids get older, Jack can tell them the truth. Sure they'll be mad at him, but I'd rather their pain was spared. I mean what child would want to know that their mother died as a result of cocaine and a desperately low IQ.
I think it would be more painful for Amy to believe that she wasn't good enough for either her mother or her aunt to stick around. Which she obviously would think.

I think it was just poor writing, but Jack should have told her they had died in an accident in the swimming pool. You can't sugar coat it unfortunately.

The storyline should be everyone (Brannings and Mitchells) pulling together momentarily for the sake of Amy and Matthew. How the school will deal with it, how the kids themselves deal with it and whether they will take action against the hotel (maybe an excuse to bring Ritchie in for a few episodes).

The post deaths episodes haven't been well written imo.

Little Amy and Scott Maslen were good yesterday, though. Hope they're being kept on.

Has anyone seen the video floating around on social media of a guy who decided to film him telling his young child that his mother died of a drug overdose? It's quite.. uncomfortable.

The way he did it was so casual. He was sat across from the kid on a bench and said "your mum died last night, ok?" And of course, the kid was like 'what?' so he said again "your mum died last night, ok?" So then the kid starts crying and asks what happened and he just says "drugs."

Credit to Jack, he handled it somewhat better than this. I'm assuming that it was meant to show the harsh reality of how addictions hurt a person's loved ones, but it just seemed cold.

Telling Amy her mum and aunt have gone away was too vague especially when Roxy left Amy with Jack already so she could just be expecting her to return at some point.

I think Amy guessing what Jack meant is that Ronnie and Roxy are never coming back was clear enough for a soap. She understood what that meant; her confused expression at the end was probably just her processing it. I seem to be in the minority here but I think EE have handled the post-death episodes really well so far. I was expecting the usual orgy of harrowing grit we've become accustomed to over the years, but it's been surprisingly tender, without shying away from the difficult stuff. Just not milking it. I've been impressed.

Well I hope they get some kind of counselling, especially for Amy. They've mentioned support groups but I hope they actually follow through as often they don't which is unrealistic.

Not only did he do it badly he spoke only to Amy , poor Ricky was left out in the cold . Despite Ronnie being his mother figure as well he left Ricky perched on the couch without even looking at him
To be honest he shoukd have told Amy seperatly. The news of the deaths will be alot bigger for her her.

Well, Amy was constantly exposed to her mum's "new friends" who had spent the night with her so breaking this news would probably be a walk in the park.

Amy probably assumes they've buggered off back to Ibiza again. Ricky was more interested in his game and Matthew was probably still trying to work out why that bald ginger one who's suddenly started hanging around was putting his pyjamas on inside out.

If her mother had hung around a week or longer, she'd see Max quickly pulling up his keks and dashing out of the bedroom.

Honestly I thought that scene was poor when they got told tonight. They get told and then just eat like nothings happened and we get more of Jack reacting. Honestly the attention should be on the kids reactions espeically Amy's.

I think the kids are a little young to act that out to be honest .It would be a lot to ask of a child actor to try and even imagine how they would feel .It had to focus on Jack to take the pressure off the kids IMO

It's not comfortable having kids act scenes like that, I'd rather they did it off screen. It didn't come across well at all. Jack bungled telling them and Ricky was sat playing his game barely even listening.

Tonight Dot says that and they basically are all like "Ok fair enough, let's eat!" and then seemingly eat and go up to bed like bugger all has happened. With Ricky he's younger and hasn't been around long so I suppose it's unlikely to affect him as much or for him to understand considering what his mum was like too, but Amy you'd expect a lot different.

I agree. Something so harrowing is a lot to ask of a child actor or actress so young. I think it was handled pretty well. I have a feeling the children won't attend the funerals.

Children don't always react how you would expect when faced with bereavement. My cousin died in her home with her family and extended family present. Her 8 year old daughter asked to see her dead body, then she went to play with her cousins as if nothing had happened. No tears. She dealt with the funeral equally well.

Counselling was available but she didn't seem to want or need it. Her mother had been ill for the previous 2 years so she was used to lots of people always being in the house and I suppose she didn't really comprehend the finality of death.

However, when she hit puberty I understand that she grieved a lot for her late mother.

The last thing they needed was the godbotherer lying through her front teeth to them. Very poorly handled.

Dot telling them was fine it was the fact they just carieed
On eating like nothing happened. The kids going and cuddling up to Jack would have been much better imo. Amy is a month older than my sister and my sister dkes 't carry on like nothing happened after a death. She is more shocked at the time than gets upset and asks questions.
