Yeah ......it's Fatcat Wednesday

Around midday on January 4th is the point in the year at which the average FTSE 100 boss will have earned what his average member of staff will earn during the whole year

It's a new one on me !

I think we should have a day off !

I think workers should demand that private companies which at people at the top more than five times the minimum wage pay people at the bottom a fifth of what those at the very top earn in salaries, bonuses, and other financial rewards.

Why? Is this just sour grapes or anything more substantial?

To get into the FTSE 100, a company must have a substantial market value and the CEO is often a contributory factor in this, hence them being paid a substantial salary. There are very few people who could run a FTSE100 company whereas there is an unlimited number of 'drones' who do the grunt work, so salaries should reflect that.

So a FTSE 100 company that pays its CEO £5m a year has to pay the cleaner £1m a year?

Pretty pointless really. I doubt many of us could run a FTSE 100 business.

Of course we could.

You just have to smoke cigars and count your bonus. There's nothing to it.
