When the Queen eventually dies
With her present illness, I have read many times that the programmes on all channels especially the BBC would be suspended when the Queen dies. I've also heard that the BBC now have has black ties on standby after the time when Peter Sissons wore a pruple one when the Queen Mother died but I don't hear is that are particluar newsreaders on any of the networks on call for the annoucement of her passing if outside peak slots or would whoever is doing the shift at the time have the honour of breaking the news?

Oh gawd, some British people will consider this an act of treason. You do have a democracy and free speech and nothing bad has been said after all.

I think broadcasters will be a lot more sensitive to public opinion these days. There will be blanket coverage, no doubt about that, but something approaching normal service will be much quicker to resume than it might have done in the past. As for who would break the news... I wonder how much notice the BBC would have between being notified by the Palace and the end of the embargo on the announcement. If it's just a few minutes it would presumably just be whoever is there. If it's an hour they might be able to get a "heavyweight" in. |

For a more detailed view, even of things that I had not considered, the following link is an interesting read.
http://uk.businessinsider.com/what-h...6-12?r=US&IR=T I hadn't even thought of things like the currency, stamps and the possible break up of the commonwealth. The cost to the country could be a similar figure to the last royal wedding which was up to £6 billion |

More worryingly Sky would parachute Kay Burley in and she'd probably end up doing a straight 96hr worlds longest ever continual broadcast and it would be all very smug and false.

On the basis of media saturation of such events and I personally hate it, I wish the Queen and Prince Philip everlasting life, purely for my sanity.

Obituary video highlights are prepared / regularly updated / edited for many famous people whilst they are still alive and well so I'm sure broadcasters have one for the queen and are ready to roll with wall to wall coverage of a royal death.
'The queen is dead' - a valid statement at some point in the future as per with humans, they all die, even the ultimate benefit scroungers. I personally will just binge watch 'The Crown' on Netflix b2b whilst sobbing into my handkerchief. |

What will she wear in her coffin, will she have a tiara on her head.
Will they have live TV showing her getting embalmed with Burley commenting Will she wear shoes or just in her bare feet Will she have underwear on Will her open coffin be on show So many questions about Liz in her coffin and how she is laid out |

I think it may be like when Dianna died.
I woke up that morning to the radio playing sad music. I had at first though the radio station had been changed but then every few mins the radio would say about the death. BBC1 and ITV went off air for an hour or two that morning and put up a notice about the death. ITV went to a news programme when it came back on air. Cant remember what the BBC did when they came back on air but I'm sure BBC1 had an extended news programme that evening. If I remember local radio went back to near normal programmes in the evening. Anyway the queen may live for another 5 to 10 years yet. Darren |

She's not dying until after Prince Charles does - she's already told him that.
