What I think.... CBB15 is C5s highest rated series, they asked, everyone declined so they thought "well we need someone from our most successful season" and Callum was the only one who said yes. So they thought why not.

I think 'availability' ( and not costing too much ) is what most of these "All-stars" have in common

The theme of this year's show is "All Stars and New Stars". Callum Best is an "All Star" because he's been on the show before. James Cosmo is considered a "New Star". It has nothing to do with their individual level of fame. The use of capital letters should have tipped you off to the fact that they're not using plan English, but I see you're not really au fait with that sort of thing.

In his VT he claimed that he is 'carrying on the legacy' of his father.
How? How exactly is he carrying on the legacy? By appearing on this shit show (To borrow Jackie Stallone's words) and living off his father's legacy? If this is what he means I think he's shitting all over his father's legacy. |

It still doesn't answer the OP's question. Callum Best was never any kind of star in the first place. Same as momma.

I think that the poster you are responding to is fully aware that the word 'star' is being eroded of its meaning and each time it's used so loosely it's meaning carries less value than the last time it was used.
If this were a normal show you would say it has an ensemble cast, so there are no 'stars' in particular. Calling them all 'stars', be it "All Stars" or "New Stars", is neither here nor there. Who cares? |

The word 'star', meaning "principle actor/performer", was invented by promoters in the first place. People who put on productions have an incentive to make them sound appealing. If you've ever thought that any of them are actually stars, whatever that means, you're having yourself on.

I differentiate between someone being a 'star' in respect to their star quality in a production of any kind for the public. You have the main players and the background characters.

As for 'star quality', as in whatever it takes to be the lead role in a large production, I don't think that any of them have it, do they? Even James Cosmo, who I'm sure is a talented actor, doesn't really have what it takes to be a lead actor, does he? Have any of them ever landed the lead role in any productions?

Cosmo has been in hundreds of tv and film productions since 1965. May not have been the 'star' name but has had many leading roles in high quality films and is much respected in the industry. He has got more star quality than the rest of the h/ms put together x 100. Sadly as he probably won't jump up and down screaming, run round the house naked, break up the furniture, and throw food around, he will be seen as boring and a waste of space.
Which film(s) did he play the lead role in? |

So which films did he play the lead?He has appeared regularly since 1966 He has appeared in 53 different films and tv programmes/series since 2010. As for Callum Best, he did very well on CBB last time and appears to know everyone. |

Because they wanted his mother to be in there with him. Though I'm not sure the house is large enough to fit both their egos in.

Because they wanted to put the mother and son in, it is a new dynamic. Colleen will appeal to a certain ITV audience and get publicity from conversation on Loose Women. James and Speidi are entertaining and Nicola has potential to go off like a firework.
The weird casting choice is Jasmine Waltz, i'd understand if Casey or Lee were going in but on her own it seems strange. |

Jasmine is probably there as a potential love interest for one of the himbos, and to generate "BB LIVE SEX SHOW" headlines when she inevitably gets naked and sexual.

He came 3rd, a lot better than Jasmine & Nicola.
Austin Armacost - runner up Calum Best - 3rd place James Jordan - 3rd place Nicola McLean - 7th place Coleen Nolan - runner up Heidi & Spencer Pratt - runners up Jasmine Waltz - 2nd evicted |

He's there because his mum is there, that creates a new narrative.
I couldn't remember which series he was in or anything he did until they showed some clips. |

I think they bottled it this series, Speidi are the most controversial housemates brought back and they're a bit like panto villains. If they had of splashed the cash and brought back Perez, Katie Hopkins, Bear, Jim Davidson etc... it would of been brilliant IMO.

It certainly isn't because of his previous quality as a housemate....but they seem to have set up some strong potential storylines for him (I won't be surprised if he wins this time)
You've got the sweet or potentially awkward Mum/Son dynamic. You've got the chance of friction/ romance/awkwardness due to Bianca and him previously being a couple. You've got a potential romance with his "friend" Jasmine (he said on live feed that he visited her/met up with her pre-Christmas). |

In answer to the OP's question, surely it just means that he has been on CBB before and that he finished in quite a high position? It doesn't really have anything to do with being a "star". As another poster put it, he has more right to be there than Nicola or Jasmine.
