Superdry I believe are British.
My mistake. Anyway good news for British business then - their shops were heaving before Christmas so no lack of potential customers there. Rather confirms that Next's problems lie with their products and pricing rather than no one spending.

Next are the tesco of clothes retailers. Nothing special about them and for people to equate next with quality is laughable.

It's just your average clothing store selling massed produced clothing from China.

But as the Tesco of clothes retailers are taken as a bellwether for high street retail.

Not something the city wants to hear. Next retailer to issue profit warning of 14%.
Sterling troubles playing a big part and household inflation playing its part too.
CEO calling for no hard Brexit.

This is another warning to the May administration.

No it's not. The PMI is the bellwether. Next like M&S, come and go. Same goes for John Lewis.

Next share price down again this morning after plummeting yesterday with M&S and Debenhams expected to issue profit warnings. Weak sterling and inflation post Brexit not helping things.

I think we also have to remember this from last year and not just about next. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...K1MOmgEhaNcTuA. Britain’s retailers have suffered the biggest fall in spending on clothes and shoes for 25 years, as consumers increasingly allocate their spare cash to leisure activities and eating out instead.

According to official figures, clothing and shoe shop sales fell 3.4% in February, which was the sixth consecutive month of decline, and marked the longest run of falling sales since October 1991.

I suppose that explains why so many Next shops are doing conversions to include Costa Coffee outlets in their premises. More money in coffee than clothes!
to include Costa Coffee

Next opened a shop not far from me about a year ago and like most I use it as a shortcut through to the shopping centre. You don't see many people actually looking at the clothes let alone queueing up at the checkouts. I have looked at a few things but I'm not buying bog standard stuff at their prices. Maybe that could have something to do with it?
