The Reason Rock is dead & never coming back.
The real reason Rock and Guitar music in general is never coming back.
https://youtu.be/qVKjqTY9Xfc If it's not in tone with today's Standers don't play it. Rock music can't embrace the dance floor sound of today and stay hip and you, have too do more too blend in without Guitars and drums too stay alive in DJ EDM Beyonce world of today. Coldplay were Indie in the days of Yellow now there EDM. If it not Something that make Girls booty shack on the dance floor don't play it. |

What complete and utter rubbish. OP you have no idea about rock music at all. Have you not seen the amount of rock mags in smiths? The endlesss websites? The huge amount of rock albums in hmv?

If rock is dead, why did bands like Iron Maiden and Rainbow have to recently put on extra dates due to popular demand?

Rock is dead on the singles chart but not albums or live and that's where rock matters most anyway

And for gods sake Coldplay are not even a decent band and so are not a rock band, get it straight just because a band has a guitar player doesn't make them a rock band |

I'm not into rock but it's still going strong and has a large following. Just because rock artists are not in the singles chart doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that nobody is listening to it. Th charts only show what's currently popular. I'm guessing a lot of rock fans don't follow the mainstream as much as pop fans, but I could be wrong. I know quite a few people who are into rock/guitar music.

Nope, rock really is, if not dead, then on life support. No music genre lasts forever. |

you mean mags like "Classic Rock", "Heritage Rock", "Geriatic Rock" and "Not quite dead yet Rock"?
Nope, rock really is, if not dead, then on life support. No music genre lasts forever. I go to quite a lot of gigs, 25 - 30+ a year, from small venues holding a couple of hundred to arenas and festivals and the vast majority are either sold out or very close to being sold out; and those attending those gigs certainly aren't just the "older generation" either. On pretty much purely word of mouth Babymetal sold out Wembley Arena last April, as have both Nightwish and Within Temptation within the last year or so. I've seen bands such as Black Stone Cherry and Alter Bridge go from playing small venues to selling out Arena tours in the last 10 years, there were 85,000+ at Download last year despite the weather, 20,000 at Ramblin' Man Fair. Rock music is very much alive and kicking, just don't expect to hear about it on the radio or read about it in the newspapers. Quote:
a quick look at the album charts shows just 6 rock acts in the top 50...a measly 12%. And one of them is Coldplay who we're told here aren't even rock, while the Rolling Stones have an average age of 72. Not looking too rosey.

Yep, Babymetal, a metal act that most people have not heard about or seen on mainstream TV/media outlets sold out 2 shows to 110,000 people in Tokyo last year - and the irony of labelling rock "old" "geriatric" "heritage" etc - is killing me as these girls are teenagers.
But damn I've bitten... |

What a ludicrous statement. Coldplay are my favourite band and they are hugely successful here and in the US. They haven't moved solely into EDM - there was plenty of indie rock and ballads on their last album. They have been consistently successful since 2000 and haven't released a bad album. Three of them play guitar btw, not such one.

Also looking at my album preorders new albums from You Me At Six, Deaf Havana, Lower Than Atlantis and Mallory Knox in the next 2 months. All these rock bands get played on Radio 1 and have young and old fans. You Me At Six wont be a million miles from the top of the album chart next week.

I don't think Rock music has quite the kudos it had in the late 60s and 70s but it is far from dead. I listen more to post rock bands like Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, etc. who all produce wonderful music, some of it last year as well. The album by Russian Circles 'Guidance' was a noisefest.
I liked the Metallica album 'Hardwired' from last year maybe because it reminded me of their earlier work. I would love to hear something new from 30 Seconds to Mars or Angels and Airwaves,,I like my rock epic. I heard Lower than Atlantis's version of Little Mix's 'Shout Out to My Ex' and I thought that was great. A great tribute.

Too early to declare rock dead, although no music lasts forever.
Big band and music hall are good examples of music forms that was once massively popular but are now effectively dead. |
