What did everyone think of Patience as an album?

I remember buying it when it came out, and being a bit disappointed, as it's not a patch on Older. I've given it a few more spins since his passing, and its better than I remembered, but still a little lacking in places.

Problem is, most of the album's best tracks (Freeek, Amazing and Shoot The Dog) were released for quite some time before the album actually came out, and the remainder of the record is very understated.

I do like My Mother Had A Brother and John And Elvis Are Dead, but there's definitely a few MOR filler tracks on there.

I do like it a lot but then I love all George's music. It's not my favourite album of his (that's Listen Without Prejudice) and certainly I don't think it's as consistently good as Older but I do think there's some great songs on it too. I wish he'd released another full studio album when he released An Easier Affair. I love that song and his duet with Mutya Buena (This Is Not Real Love) is gorgeous. I still can't believe we're never going to hear any more new music from George.

I like it. I can remember listening to an interview he did for one of the radio stations around the time it was released and hearing the title track and thinking it was worth the wait alone just for that.

Round Here would probably be my favourite and most played track from the album. John and Elvis Are Dead, Through and My Mother Had A Brother are great tracks. Amazing is one of his best singles in my opinion. I loved 'Flawless' when it was first released but George's lyrics and vocals really made it.

Listening to it some more, I feel it's a strong album, but three cuts are very below-par and bring the whole thing down. Cars & Trains, American Angel and Flawless (Go To The City) are very mediocre tracks and drag down the rest of the album. It'd be a much better album without those three songs imo.
